We just redid the carpet in the del sol and now we are moving on to the seats.

a couple questions:

1) What is the best way to get the old cloth off without raping the foam?

2) How can you get the headrest cloth off without cutting it?

3) What spray glue do you recommend for under the new cloth (or in our case leather)?

4) Does the glue smell at all or anything on those hot days?

5) Anyway to repair the foam because of wear and tear?

I have no idea how to do it, But you should write a how to for the rest of us sol owners when your done so we can do it too, With pics of course

Ummmm.....Pay an upholstery shop?

You'll need the hog ring pullers, and a lot of time, and sewing skills. I have no idea how to do it, but if you do DIY then I'd LOVE to see a write up. GL

The old seats should just come right off. Undo the metal clips at the bottem and unzipper the cloth.

As for putting new leather or cloth on, i cant help ya with that one.

the foam kinda sticks to them... no doubt i'll be able to do it but i was wondering if anyone had any tricks

 

Haven't tried this, but maybe heat up the area you want to remove to make the glue a little more plyable????

 

Hahah. Im not sure heating up foam is such a good idea. Regardless if its low heat. What would catch or melt first, foam or glue? I wouldn't want dmbmalaka to find out the hard way

 

I'm not saying to make the glue melt. Heating the parts up w/ a blowdryer may be enough to loosen the glue enough so that you are not tearing foam off. Just an idea.

 

i'm pretty sure the foam will soften or melt with the glue (which is what sl!m was talking about)

 

As far as I know the fabric isn't glued to the foam... I took apart a seat for a 93 civic lx sedan and it wasn't glued, just stretched real tight over the foam. Haven't taken Sol seats apart but I would think they are the same. Anyway good luck and post pics when they're done!

 

we already started one and the cloth (especially the stripe down the middle) seemed glued... it could have been just old and stuck.

we are gonna prolly take pics and possibly do a DIY for it. We bought the leather as a kit though, so the DIY would jsut be changing the covers from cloth to leather.

does anyone want us to do the DIY?

Ditto here, and where'd you get the kit from? I wonder if I can get OEM-like cloth and patterns. Mine are starting to show their age.

 

I'd LOVE (!!!!!!!) to see a DIY. I've been wanting to do leather in my sol for forever and a day but i fear upholstry.

I would contact DELSOLEMITE here on H-T. He's got a Sol with stock reupholstered seats thats black leather with red stitch. Looks crazy. Not sure if he did it himself but it's def worth looking into. Good luck.

 

I believe DelSolSir has had his seats done as well, that is before he sold them.

I'd LOVE to see a DIY on this though. I'm always up for learning something new and saving myself money in the process.
