Default bc3+ cams on stock valvetrain?

Well i did some search and some people say that you will need to upgrade your valvesprings for this cam, but some people also say your stock valvetrain is good as long as you are staying with stock redline (stock ecu). I need your guy's input on this. This cams is going on a gsr by the way

I read the same thing too.

I would like to know who all is using the BC3's on stock valve train and how many miles are on the them, the origonal valvel train components and how long you have used the the cams w/ it.

if you are going to use a stage 3 cam you need to upgrade valvetrain or you will have valve float for sure

I ran mine on stock b16a valvetrain for a week and bent an intake valve... I would not recommend it. I have since upgraded to TODA valve springs and no problems now...

i've heard that you can run these cams on ITR valvetrain... "heard" so dont quote me on that...

people say these cams make power up to only 8200 or 8300 rpms....

if you upgrade the valvetrain... ie omnipower or RM.... would that increase the RPM range?

They are not a 'stage 3' cam. They are equivalent to a stage one. Don't be confused by the title they use.

well what "stock" valvetrain?

ctr is stock. but handles 9k + rpms. i beleive that ctr's would do the job.

BTW: ctr red line is 9200

You cannot go by this statement. One company's 'stage 3 cam" DOES NOT mean that it is the same as another companies "stage 3" cam. Are you saying that a BC3+ is the same as a S2S3!? Don't think so ...that was a very very weak statement right there.

Uhhhhh, NEGATIVE> My B16b bounces at 8,700-8,900.....that is with a stock pct ecu. You need to know what you're talkin about before you open your mouth there Joeb18r

They can be run on a stock B-SERIES valvetrain if not taken passed 8200. I've only actually seen them make power until 8600. Type R valvetrain and up is what I would recommend but spec wise they will work on a stock valvetrain, just cutting it close. To the person that asked, NO it would not benefit you to take these cams any further than 8600RPM's in my experience. Thats why alot of people find this cam ideal for LS/VTEC's.

I believe CTR ECU RPM cutoff is 8800RPM's

they will work fine with oem type R valve train as long as the rev limiter is stock

ok did some more research, actually ctr redlines at 9k. thought it was 9200 my bad. but not sure whats wrong with your ecu but it should not be bouncing at 8700. but then again how much do you trust your stock guage clusters accuracy?

my ctr pulls to 9200 rpms, with no problems.

Yep. Honda RPM gauges read sometimes up to 200rpm's ahead. Some CTR's will actually show you hit 9k or further on a tach but only actually hit 8800 on the dyno. I am however farely sure that the fuel cutoff for a PCT ECU is 8800rpm's
