Re-Bedding Pads?
I just installed my Cobalt Spec VR pads in preparation for my first track time of the new year on Thursday (track is only about 20 minutes away). These pads have not been used since my last track day in the fall, but my car has seen very few miles since then. Do I need to re-bed the pads (using the new pad procedure) or will the drive to the track be enough?
the drive to the track should be enough...
i would swap them on a few days before and drive the car to work to help smooth the surface up.
since they have seen track use before they are ready to rock and roll.

I've swapped rotors at the track and skipped the bed-in procedure, even though the rotors were last run on a different compound. They decided to warp or at least not distribute the pad material evenly, but they lasted through the day no problems. YMMV.
You may want to bed them again to get an even amount of the new pad material spread across the rotor.

this is a good plan..
I was thinking that he might have a set of rotors for track use (matched with a set of track pads).
If you are just swapping pads.. there will be some pulsations until the current pad material has worn off and the new pad material has transfered over.

Better plan: Run Spec VR's on the street, stop worrying about rebedding pads

I've been running them for a few months, DD. I swear I will never buy another brand of brake pad for this car.

its just that you'd wasting a $150 pad on the street when a set of $50 pads will do...
don't get me wrong, i dd my spec VRs
never need to switch them out or rebed

the surfaces clean up quite nicely and "I" think that it helps pro-long pad life.</TD></TR></TABLE>
In the VR's case this might be true, although I never really noticed anything for street driving besides a hint less braking ability for initial cold stops. Just gotta be more careful.
The Hawk Blues on the other hand had a bit better initial torque for cold street braking but absolutely tore up my rotors.
Best case scenario would be to at the very least run GT sports on the street and Swap in VR's at the track. But who am I to talk, I haven't run anything close to street pads for the last 4 years.
It's hard to go back when the braking is just so awesome.
