I was told I couldn't do 86mm ona B20 because of some bullshit reason.

It's an RS Machine Sleeved B20...I'm guessing Darton Dry Sleeves.

What makes a GSR\LS 86mm Boreable, and a B20 isn't. I can't see a big difference between 85mm and 86 on the structural integrity.

I have a 86mm b20 block. From my stand point its better to use a b20 block because the water jacket is a little larger in diameter than any other b-series. Just my $.02

As long as it CAN be bored to 86 without any problems...I don't give a **** about anything else...thanks for personal experience.

Yes, it can be done. RLZ has many 86mm B series motors that they have built. They were calling me a ***** for only going 85mm on my motor.

No No No...I KNOW you can do 86mm on most B Series blocks...I'm talking specifically of the B20 Block. I was told that the B20 could only be bored to 85mm. Obviously this doesn't make and sense...hah.

Wasn't it something about webbing cylinder walls?

Bump for an answer.

yes you can go 86mm on b20. its better to sleeve a b20 to 86mm cause it has a bigger OD on the factory sleeves. for more support. And what VenGeanceDrag said, i has more space for coolant

the cylinder walls are comprised of a different material. if its a sleeved motor you are talking about, which seems to be the case, then you can bore it out just fine since you are using the same material thats in all other sleeved motors.

now as to the comment about the water jackets..... put up some evidence. ive measured a LS and a B20 and they were the same.

what people where probably saying to you is that you can't go over 85mm on STOCK sleeves. you can go out to 87mm on most aftermarket sleeves. so your answer is YES on a B20 BLOCK SLEEVED you can go 86mm

no people are talking about sleeved blocks...

Sleeving a b20 block is different than a b18/b16, etc. Notice how it usually costs more.

Dave- I think this will help you a bit.

I have an RS machines sleeved block as you do. Through some research I figured out the sleeved they use are LA Sleeves. Rocket helped me find their web site.

Anyhow, I spoke with LA and they said you can actually take these sleeves out to 87mm if you so desire. I just had my block bored and torque plate honed to 86mm with some CP pistons from Rocket.

Everything checked out fine at the machine shop.

Only difference is this is an LS block.

it doesn't matter what or whos sleeves they are. just matter whats the OUTTER DIA. of the sleeve. to see how much room there is to go big on the bore size

I didn't realaize the outer diameter was the only limiting factor. Some of GE's sleeves won't accept an 86mm bore and some do and I have not noticed a difference in their outer diameter. Maybe I am crazy.

Thank you know it all

The reason for the sleeving costing more on a b20 is because of the extra work that is involed in getting the "one piece" cylinder milled out.

Thank you come again :-*

Keep in mind that bore spacing on a B-series motor is 90mm. This means that with 87mm bores, there is only 3mm of material between adjacent cylinders. Also, since there is no such thing as aftermarket siamesed sleeves, the actual thickness of the sleeve narrows to 1.5mm between the cylinders with an 87mm bore!
