BCIII+ Manufacturing Problems/Help
Well, I purchased a set of BCIII+ cams for a rebuild I was doing. Brand new OEM B17 shortblock, B16 head P&P, .020" shaved, Omni springs, retainers, and flat bottom valves. I assembled long block, turned over to my installer and he spend a week and a half trying to get the car to run, we tried nearly every thing, replacing stuff left and right. Finally decided to swap in some stock cams. In went GSR cams. Motor fired right up and runs beautifully. Well a local tuner examined my BCIII+ cams, and says I got a mixed box of cams, because the intake looks mild like a type R but the exhaust is NASTY with primary and secondary lobes with only 0.010" less lift and only slightly less duration. Nasty, no way this could be a matched set of cams. Since had 3 other builders look at them and all are in agreement, including myself now that I think about it. I didn't know any better at first because I have very little experience with Honda Cams. Anyway I am currently trying to work this out with Kteller.com and BuddyClubUSA, but progess is slow. I have confirmed that the "T" is on the ends of both cams, but that means nothing because i could have easily been a manufacturing error.
I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of their camshaft lobes for the BCIII+?

Oh, here are lobe heights:
EXHAUST
BCIII+
1 7.37mm/.290"
2 7.37mm/.290"
3 7.62mm/.300"
INTAKE
BCIII+
1 4.22mm/.166"
2 6.10mm/.240"
3 7.37mm/.290"
Intake looks "normal" but the exhaust cam is NASTY.

Don't get me wrong. This issue in no way reflects on KTeller.com service. He simply sold what he had stocked. As the boxes were properly labeled and the cams are properly labeled with the milled "T" on the ends, but the profiles on the exhaust are just crazy.
Yeah it could a one-off manufacturing defect - i'm just wary that some stores will be trying to sell cheap rip-offs of the cam - especially considering that Buddy Club USA are out of stock of that cam themselves!
I'm sure kteller.com are completely legitimate and are a licensed reseller of BC3+ cams.

Well as unusual as it sounds, installer found out that the cat or something beyond the header was clogged pretty severely. In this state the BCIII+ cams would not start or run, but the GSR's idle but bogged under partial and full throttle, limiting rpms to a few thousand. Swapped the cat, and decided it was time to scrap the stock OE DX civic exhaust, so in went a Apexi WS. Car is running great with GSR cams. Found photo from BCIII owner and profiles were similar. Been in contact with Albert at BC USA and per the photos I emailed him the lobes appear normal. Thank you Albert for your help and support. So I now have my installer swapping the BC cams in for round two.
The primaries on these BCIII+ cams are very unusual and certainly go against conventional wisdom and cam designs. Perhaps the clogged cat and the unusual primaries created an atmosphere for such poor volumetric effeciency that the motor would not even start or run. We will see how it does with the swapped cat and fresh exhaust to open things up.

Bingo! BCIII+'s in and the car is running great. Its amazing how the clogged cat "killed" the motor with the BC cams, but the GSR camed motor fired up. I suspect those "aggressive" exhaust primaries and the clogged cat probably had the motor pumping "exhaust" right back into adjacent cylinders. *shrug* Who knows, who cares, all that matters is the car is running now.
