Looks pretty good. It is very hard to get the hang of brazing right away. I have spent many many hours when I was in high school, trying to figure it out and mastering it. I only have a couple pointers for you. Try to get your base metals a little hotter before you start to add the filler. And one more thing, try to direction your torch in such a manner that you keep even heat through the edges of your base metal so you get a nice even looking braze all the way down the seam. If you get one spot hotter than the next your pool will start to spread out more like in some sections of your braze. Hope this helps you a little. P.S. Are you using a rod that has flux on it or are you using a bare rod and dipping it in powdered flux? Jason

It's looking pretty good man. I personally like dipping the filler in the powdered flux. The flux always seems to crack of the coated ones and that annoys me.
for brazing cuz it's fun.

Yep. That looks good. I'm no braze expert at all...all that I've done is a big bunch of soldering, so nothing like joining anything like steel
...those brazes are surprisingly similar to an arc (in general, not just stick) weld...

What kind of torch are you using? I had read that a MAPP gas torch from Home Depot would be hot enough, but I tried it the other day and I couldn't melt the brazing rod I had bought. could be the wrong rod too I guess.
Right. It's hot enough to do a couple of rods, but other than that, you need to invest in a dual bottle torch. You should be using something like a MAPP-Oxygen or maybe even acetyline-oxygen combination.
