ticking noise on LS/VTEC
hey guys whats up? well i had finally got my rs/vtec setup complete and all the work was done by a local shop. everything seems to be running fine except i hear this ticking sound coming from the engine. my auto teacher said that it might be a loose valve, but i told him that i had just gotten a new motor. so i went back to the shop and the guy that did it for me said that it was perfectly normal and that on ls/vtec setups the valves are SUPPOSED to make that noise and he said something about the timing belt too but he said that its normal. is this correct? i want to know from anyone that has had FIRST HAND experience on ls/vtec setups and if they have that same noise coming from the head. thanks alot guys
Here are two big things to check. Valve Lash, and LMAs.
My LMAs were bad for a while, it was annoying as hell. I upgraded to Prelude LMAs and I no longer have the annoying "tick tick tick"

I have an LS/VTEC also and was told the same thing. I've had the valves adjusted several times and i still have the annoying tick-tick...
The mods are just B16 pistons and a decked head.

Hahaha...
I had the same problem on my LS/VTEC. Granted mine was more of a "clacking" noise.
I tried everything, valve lash, LMA, checked clearances on valves, valve stems, tore the head apart and put it back together again. After that...I double checked and did it again.
After hours of frustration, we found out it was the Vtec spool, it wasn't closing/engaging completely so the rocker arms would get some oil(obviously not enough) and try to engage vtec, thus the ticking noise.
Try a different Vtec spool.
