Default T3 turbo...what to get...4 bolt 5 bolt? What does A/R mean...what inlet/outlets are good?

An allmotor guy looking for a little turbo advice...crossing over soon...

I Well, i'm currently in the market of building my turbo setup for my B20. i'm only looking at boosting 5-6 psi on B20B with an even lower compression around 8.3:1. I was wondering what the A/R's mean when looking for a turbo. What is good for my setup...The max I'll ever boost is maybe 8 psi so what A/R should I look for? Also, I've been told to look for the one with a 5 bolt downpipe flange. Is that right? i mean, does it matter? The only reason I can see getting the 5 bolt is it's more stable with the 5 bolts... And one more question...what inlet outlet sizes should i look out for. Whats too big? I've seen anywhere from 2-2.5 inches on the outlets/inlets.

So when you reply keep in mind that im only gonna boost maybe 6 psi...so what would be best for me?
ps...please I don't want anyone telling me to get a different turbo. I'm 100% set on the T3.
Thanks in advance.

I would recommend going to the book store and picking up Corky Bells "Maximum Boost". That book will answer most of your questions, and start you on your way with a good understanding of how boost works and how to find the best Turbo for your application.

thanks....I think i will go and pick that up...I know basically how turbos work...
and what the different components do....
I'm actually an all motor guy...i've ripped apart honda motors and put them back together.
Does anyone else have any quick ideas on what i should look out for? I've been seein some really good deals on ebay lately for some 48 a/r 42 a/r t3 5 bolt turbos brand new in the box, sealed with all the gaskets....for around 200 or 220....

I really want to get this turbo project goin because I can't hold on to this money for too long or I'll start spending it on other areas of my car...lol.

anybody else?
I was thinking of the 48/42 a/r T3. It looks like it would suit my needs and wants very well.
Does it matter if it is internally or externally wastegated? Do i need the 5 bolt downpipe?

Can someone post up a picture and point to the all the different flanges and main characteristics of a t3 and explain them to me...

I've tried searching for turbo 101 and numbers to no avail...pleas help.

You might want to check out Garrett's and Precision's websites. They've got some go info.

Also if you look at the top of the Turbo Forum, there is a bunch of archived stuff that will help you.
