Default Engine / motor mounts - Mugen vs Spoon vs ES inserts

Hi All,

In the market for motor mounts and have been reading through the archive with a mixed bag of opinions.

Basically, if money wasn't a factor, which one would be the better option?

1. ES inserts - no doubt they work! but is there a difference between the insert and the mugen replacement? (even if some say that we won't notice the difference). One would logicially deduct that the full replacement would be bigger improvement over stock, but minimal improvement over Stock mounts + ES inserts. True statement?

2. Those who have been on both inserts then replacement mounts - comments?

3. Those who've installed mugen/spoon mounts - comments?

4. Those who've installed mugen/spoon mounts AND ES inserts - comments?
(this one seems to be a turbo R fav)

All theories welcomed.

P.S - no comments on the HAS sports pls They are good though!

I'll wait for pooface to chime in here....

but he has the ES inserts PLUS the prothane mounts.....and wow.... I said it in a previous post...but the vibration is INTENSE....

a 200hp vibrator.....at idle the rear view mirror was next to disposable!

Spikey who frequents this board has Spoon mounts and they were noticeably more liveable..... they aren't as direct as the setup described above.... but I think a happy medium between vibration/performance/value are the ES inserts.

I personally use a single prothane rear mount. That alone has helped alleviate some intense wheel hopping (NOT completely eliminated) at the strip and when looking at my motor on the dyno, the rearward torquing was noticeably less than stock.

I agree with Pat; the Sp00n mounts are a nice compromise

Ya, but you get used to it. Me likey Wheel hop is all but gone now, but I'm sure the 600 lb springs and bilsteins in the front help a bit too.

On my GSR, I had the 2 jimfab mounts. The vibration was unbearable. I had to take them out. Yes wheel hop was eliminated and launches were good. My rear OEM mount was kind of weak though. I think if you get all 5 mounts the vibration would be less.

I replaced them with new ITR mounts 2 front lower and rear. Wheel hop is still gone, launching the same, and no vibration.

so are the mugen mounts, harder than stock, not as harsh as the poly inserts

haha, I have the oem mounts + Prothane upper and rear inserts (race disc) + ES lower inserts.

It is certainly livable, and gives you a more "direct" feel to your car.

For those of you who should've purchased a gsr or ls - these aren't for you.

Great stuff! keep them coming!

Will be awaiting your review Bbasso ... the jim fabs certainly look hardcore

Also just a note for those who don't know...
Spoon is a 3 piece set
Mugen is a 5 piece set.

One thing i forgot to ask.... I see that most comments relate to reducing wheel hop .. which would be the obvious improvement, but would anyone say that it's a worth while track mod?

Most definately it is a worthy track/circuit mod.....

the constant accel/decel that you will be doing will most definately put these on the top of your list.....

I believe Best Motoring did a "tune up" of the Type-R a couple of years ago comparing the engine placement of a used Type-R vs. a new one and they found enough variance to warrant replacing the used up motor mounts....(old sat lower)

I think they argued it would affect how the entire powertrain sat, causing unwanted binding in the axles....but again...this was years ago.....

Does anybody know the price for the Spoon mounts? The Mugen set runs a whopping $440...
