Used search, now have some quick nitrous Q's...
Hey all. Just spent about the last hour reading through nitrous related archives. good stuff for sure, but i have some additional questions that i thought I'd throw out your way.
I'm planning on going with the ZEX wet nitrous kit after only hearing fantastic things about it. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, but hardly a "wrench head" or whatever the slang is. ZEX wet kit sounds like it's actually an easier install than the other brands' wet kits as well...
So the first question is the legality of nitrous oxide. What exactly are legal measures against using it on the street? is it illegal in general just to have equipped? And i keep hearing "just don't let a cop see you purge"...so I'm assuming that it is.
The second question is about bottle placement. Obviously by my user name, i drive a crx. Add in the fact that my car is gutted, and that leaves absolutely no where to put the bottle out of sight from potential thieves/cops/pelicans/etc. Anybody have any ideas on what i could do to "hide" it? I'm thinking about having to fab some type of box/shelter type of thing, but would the masking of the bottle cause any temp problems or anything else you think?
well...those are the two questions. FYI, i was asking about using nitrous and the laws about it on the street for the sake of knowing what could happen to me. I don't street race, but chances are I'm not going to wait around for the strip to open back up months down the road before i test the nitrous.

EDIT: I instinctively posted this here because in the back of my mind i know that the EF owners are the smartest and most informative....*kisses asses*
Mods, feel free to move...i apologize.

put it in the truck or hide it under your center consol tear the center consol up and re fabricate it to fit aroud it or just get longer hoses and put it in the trunk
im not 100% sure but i think u can have nitrous but not use it on ne streets, umm if u dont have a passanger often i think a nos bottle will fit behind there if the seats all the way forward, other than that u cant rerally hide one in a gutted crx, i also have a striped crx and have been thinking how to hide it
hope i helped

you want the bottle sitting so the vavle is pointing toward the front of the car and the bottom of the bottle to the back of the car. Also want it tilted somewhat.
Put your interior back in and that'll hide it.
Its really not that much weight. After all your gonna be spraying now.

i am currently running the zex dry kit with a 15lbs bottle. I mounted the purple box and everything in the engine bay for test purposes(was going to hide later that night) when i got pulled over they asked what the purple box was and i said its for the intake. he asked if it has a carb number and i said no so he said its illegal and my intake was illegal also. so he wrote me a ticket for the illegal intake but i guess things seemed out of place still for him so he called an officer who is with the street racing enforcement program when he showed up he ran through his book and didnt find anything about the box but he was claiming my ls motor was illegal because it is japanese so they just gave a refferee ticket and took pictures of the engine bay. while i was signing the ticket the other officer was still looking at the purple box scratching his head(45 minutes later) and he wasnt sure about what it was so he ran the lines back(wich i hid under the carpet through the firewall to the back of the hatch under the crago cover) and he poped my hatch and found the bottle and he started yelling at me about having nitrous and how i will blow up. and how race cars dont belong on the street blah blah blah. anyways instead of going to the reff i just payed the fine($280) . now I completely hid everything running a stock intake so that the cop has no reason to investigate further when they pull me over. the only problem youll run into is mounting the bottle bracket you have to weld a peice of plate to make a flat mounting for the rear bracket or shim it with washers because of the sheet metal is all bumpy were the tire went.

Just don't spray on the streets. keep the bottle out of the car when you're not going to race. and hook it back up when you're going to. I came from that area and can't think of anytime the cop had me pop my hood or really even searched my car. now if you hit over into P-town I wouldn't even have it in my car unless I was going to the track, because everyone in that area knows that they are the nicest cops out there................. NOT. haha
Thats just my opinion. don't drive with it unless you're gonna race. Also I don't think they can say anthing about it being all hooked up if the bottles not in the car, but I could be wrong.

Lead_head, damn man, I could spell better than that in 3rd grade.
If you are looking to hide your bottle, remove your spare and replace it with 5lb bottles or a few 2.5lb bottles.
Carry a can of fix a flat and a cell phone.
