Default Best engine management system for under $1600?

There are a few options out there (AEM EMS, FAST/Speed Pro, Hondata, Haltech, etc)

Each system out there looks promising and enticing in its own way. Im just curious what others thought to be the best sub $1600 engine management system?

Experiences? Opinions?

This will be for a NA drag set up, 16+:1 compression using ITB's.

Im curious what you guys recomend.

Thanks

I have an AEM EMS and its pretty easy to use, but if I was going to buy a new system it'd be Autronic. I think the SMC is below $1600 but the SM2 is usually around the $2000 range.

What would be the advantage/s of the Autronic over the AEM EMS?

is that 1600 tuned as well or for a base unit I could get you into an AEM ems for about 1350

i know if i were gonna do it again...

it would be an AUTRONIC plug-n-play. with their CDI box. i woulda went with that setup if i had the money at the time. i belive the pnp board goes for 1699, and the cdi box is another ~850

more info on the autronic

autronic CDI

i had SPEED-PRO, but sold it, it couldnt drive my injectors down enough to idle the car to my liking.(1600cc on gas) but it was very easy to use, and the car ran great with it. it probably would have been fine if i was running the car on alcohol like i should have been. i spent 1800 on the box/harness/software. i dont think the speed pro is a very good "bang for the buck" (still gotta add in a MSD box ontop of the cost, i belive the MSD10 box is about 900 bucks itself)

F.A.S.T aka SPEED-PRO

i havent gotten a chance to run my AEM ems, and CDI box yet. so we will see how that goes. i spent about 1500 on my AEM/CDI/TONY1 cam trigger/945rr coil on plug setup. hopefully my "cheap" setup will do what i want it to, and not have a problem.

info on the AEM and their CDI box setup.

TONY 1 cam trigger setup <--- allows you to run with NO DISTRIBUTER.

Im actually looking into the Electromotive Tec3 with DFU (Direct Fire Unit) right now, Ive been talking to a few people that have used that set up and swear by it.

Anyone have any experience with the Tec3?

If its as good as Ive heard, I wouldnt mind paying the extra $

We used a sequential FAST system last year and I love it. Its easy to use and it does what you need it to do. For an all motor racecar...I think it is more than sufficient.

If I was going to buy a new system today I would probably get Autronic.

The fast isn't that hard to run smooth at idle if you upgraded it to the sequential system, as for the 1600 cc's, damn that sucks you couldn't get it to idle. did you try cutting the injector opening cycle to like 1.2 ms instead of 1.6or 8?

But yeah the Fast is pretty expensive, try the autotronic.

im not 100% sure what my opening cycle was at, but i belive it was around 1.7ms. i had messed with it in the past, but it seemed to die out when i lowered the cycle below 1.6 or 1.5ms. possibly could helped it from dying by bumping base fuel pressure????

the car ran fine, besides the idle. it was smooth, never broke up, popped or anything.

I use the FJO Racing Electronics 341B Http://www.Fjoracing.com with Direct Fire Coils on my Street Car and our racecars.

I used to run the TECII and have tuned multiple TEC3s. Great system, pretty easy to use. Few Bugs, but Tec3 is alot better than TEC2.

I've also played with the Accell DFI. Nice system, but you still need to get an ignition system. FJO/TEC you don't need an MSD. Everything is in the Management system.

auto tune is for *****'s, i can tune a car better/faster than any "autotune" i have ever seen... pretty gay to buy a system for that reason.

bang for the buck you simply CANT beat the ems. flexability, number of outputs, customer support, etc, etc...

thats about the most ignorant statement i have ever heard...watch the video i posted link to....endyn made 298.8hp with fully tuned map...and made 298.7hp on auto tune...and the auto tune is on the fly....you set the map cells by lambda and the ecu creates the maps...its setup and go...its impossible that your faster

I was there during the testing, the autotune works, but it does take some time and requires a very accurate steady state dyno. Definitely something i can do without...

"The Autotune ™ software is much faster then a good operator. It is not possible to manually tune as quick as the Autotune ™. A typical engine will take less than 20 minutes to fully map on an engine dyno.

The accuracy of the Autotune ™ can be setup in the software from 0.5% to 5.0% accuracy. The default value is 2% accuracy, this is generally a lot more accuracy then most tuners manual tune engines."

"will take less than 20 minutes to fully map on an engine dyno"

ive seen it...it works...the system for the evo ive seen made me drool....for the added cost of the system he saved $$$ in tuning
