Ignition cylinder lock removal on '95 Accord please help !
1995 Honda Accord LX , Automatic. 4cyl. 4 dr.sedan
Hello, I need some info on the removal proccess for the ignition cylinder lock on our Accord. The key is stuck in it and won't rotate to the "off" position. I have the electrical components removed or tucked away for access to the lock assembly. There is a metal strap that wraps around the top of the column and is riveted to the lower cylinder/lock. To remove this, do you have to bust out the rivets or ??? Also what would be the installation of a new unit be? The rivets are very heavy duty and in a tight space.
I'm just trying to do this myself instead of paying the dealer. Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Someone broke in my ride and tried to start the car by jamming a srewdriver in the key ignition, this fvcked it up so I went to the junk yard to get a used key ignition. If i remember, I used a punch w/ a chisel point to create a slot on top of the rivetted bolt so I was able to screw it out and reuse that same bolt.
yeah just use a chiesel and a hammer and hit on the corners of the bolts and walk it out or if not you can drill them out they are bolts, that used to have a head on them but when you tighted them the head is supposed to break off.

My switch went bad so I had to replace mine. Bought it new from Honda/Acura Palace in downtown Los Angeles for $100 (new ones from dealers retailed close to $200)...anyway..........
I dremeled a slot into the head and unscrewed it. The switch came with new shear bolts so I used those...
So, you can dremel, drill out (using screw extractors) or use a chisel...you're choice.

I have had similar problems with my friend's corolla and I have had to do similar jobs with my 88 Civic Hatch and 79 Camaro Z28. The biggest deal was accessing the push-pin and making sure the locking spring didn't come shooting out. 20 minute job each time... 3 times and counting... I hope I don't have to do it again cuz getting the parts sucked ***

Instead of creating a new thread i can relate to this one. My sister's car was recovered with the same situation: jammed screwdriver into the ignition. Right now, the ignition is out and i was wondering if i just bought a new ignition lock and try to install it for her. Can anyone give advice or instructions on how to install it?? Thanks! My sister called the local shop and they quoted her 207.87 just for the part. It's just sitting in our garage right now.
