Default Im confused about Exhaust pieces.

What is the difference between all the different pipes and where do they go. Flexpipe, downpipe, test pipe, y pipe, resonator, downpipe. In what order does it go and how come some exhaust setups use certain pieces and other dont. Enlighten me please.

you could search for this......google works wonders....

flexpipes are flexible sections usually on the downpipe, which is the lower section of the header, or on turbo cars, the peice of piping that goes from turbo to exhaust.....

y-pipes are used to bring 2 pipes into 1, usually used on 4-2-1 headers.....

resonators are usually on the catback a few inches after the cat....they help to take some of the unwanted noise away from the exhaust tone before it reaches the muffler.....

test pipes are straight peices of piping that are put in place of the catalytic converter.....
