Default [HELP] Removing rear strut and spring.

Im trying to remove the my rear struts and spring from the rear of my EK but people are telling me different ways to do it, all of them the nuts and bolts are seized so im goin to bring it to a shop to remove them for me but i want to be sure of shich ones i need to remove.

----------------------------

some people are saying to remove the upper control arm by removing the bolts form option 1. (and if im supposed to do it this way is the right bolt welded on there? https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1162012 )

------------------

and the other way people are saying for me to do it is to remove the bolt where the lower control arm meets the body remove that bolt and drop it down? but for that bolt on the side facing the front of the car there is a cup shape where the nut is and i cant get in there with a tool to hold it.

i would just like to know which way is easier or wich way is the right way? (all the bolt are seized basicly except the one that hold the strut in place.....

If you take a pic of the lower control arm where its connected to the frame I'll show you exactly which bolt to remove... You said in your other post that theres a cup thing in the way.. I think you're going at it from the wrong side..

your going at it from the wrong way.. Its not the nut that needs to be removed.. Thats a part of the car its a the bolt that goes into the nut.. you need to remove the 14mm in the first pic not the second

welded.. Its not going anywhere.. Heres a little illustration...

Just remove that 14 mm pull the LCA down then slide the suspension out.. pretty basic.. The 14mm will only unscrew about a 1/3 of the way out then you need to just pull it the rest of the way out

That happed to me...i cut off the other end of the bolt and removed the whole LCA drove out the out bushing and replaced it with an ES bushing. I got new bolts from honda and bought grade 8 nuts to use with the new bolts since i cut the original of the strut.

You really don't have much of an option to get it out. Either drill it out CAREFULLY or use an easy out.

Get a good metal drillbit of the same size as the bolt and got at it from the nut side (less work)... You will need a new bushing and a nut though because the threads inside that nut are gonna go bye bye when the bit goes all the way through.

Try using a little bit smaller diameter bit than the bolt, that way you may be able to save the threads. Although, if the bolt was really seized in there it may not work. But it's worth a shot. Sometimes if you use a little smaller diameter bit than bolt, when you drill through it the bolt with actually start to spin and then you can spin it out.

NOOOOOOO!
I tried doing it and ended up buying a new set of control arms. Even if you drill through it, it won't budge. If it's not too late, invest in an "Impact Wrench," you'll be happy you did it.

Got milk... ..I mean Tools? It's easy if you have the right tools, otherwise you're screwed.

Um, how is the car being supported? Is the drive on ramp with the boards holding the car up, and is it under the suspension in anyway? You already took the bolt off that holds the strut to the lower control arm, you should have been able to just push down on everything and been able to slide the strut off, or you could have removed the bolts in option 1 and it would have definetly given you enough room to get it off. If that ramp is under the suspension you need to support the car some other way so it can be pushed down and the strut removed.

one, your SOL
your going to have to buy a new LCA, or remove yours, and press in a new bushing
basically what happened is the bolt rusted insind the metal sleeve of the bushing (very common problem on hondas)
you can not use an easy out, the only thing you can do at this point is to break the welded nut on the other side
cut the bolt with a hacksaw
get new LCA, new bolt, and put a washer and nut to hold the arm in
just this time, use some anti sieze so this never happens again

and another piece of advice, don't do the same thing on the other side
use an air impact gun, its a lot less likely to break the bolt
constant torque, like using a large breaker bar, is what breaks bolts

Oh, and get jackstands
a friend of mine was crushed by a car, because he thought it was "good enough"

Easiest way is Option #1. Just unbolt the UCA and put your weight on the hub assembly.. you'll be able to get it out easy. for breaking the LCA bolt.

When I dealt w/ this on my 92 CX, I ended up cutting to the chase and bought some nice used LCA's from Cali.

Much less of a headache than what you're going through now.
