Default Stock head with 2L block?

I know headwork is recommended, deshrouding the valve area, etc... but is it necessary? Will it work without any adverse effects?

Let's make it this scenario. 85mm bore with stock GSR head.

maybe I should rephrase this question... at what point in bore size do I need to worry about headwork?

the head will "work" with any sized bore, but why build a bottom end without providing a head to flow the additional air you can move?

I'm planning on building the bottom end first, then spend money on the head when I can. I'm going from a b18b to a b18c, so I have to spend money on not just the upgradeable parts, but also the block & head itself... so it's a pretty hefty investment at the moment. The head is more easily accessible over the block to send out for work.
