Default tig and mig question

at my school we dont have a tig, but we do have a mig, and ive gotten to be pretty good with the mig welder... now, my question... im asking this becuase i dont know much about tigs... but, what does a tig do better that a mig doesnt? and if i were to try and make an exhaust manifold, would it not turn out very well if i made it with a mig? any info is appriciated

It's more versatile, welds look better, more control over heat and wire input....better with thinner materials etc....

thanks that makes sense (hense the pedal and the wire in your hand idea)... but would it still work to make a manifold with a mig though

Mig welding the manifolds will work, but don't plan to get full penetration. Therefore, reliability will be just a matter of how long till you have problems. Maybe a month, maybe a couple years or longer. I'd definitly not reccomend mig for them if you plan to sell them. For yours, it's not a big deal since you can repair the cracks easily.

Not true.
