ok, ima give some more insight to hopefully find a solution for this problem. on the first sensor, as soon as i reset the ecu it would immediately throw the code. now with the new sensor, it waits about 3-5 seconds then shows up sayin the same code 65. heres a thought i just had. what are the signs of a cat goin bad? i have a catco hi flo cat(on there since july 04) BUT, i did notice somewhat of a sulfar smell sometimes under somewhat heavy acceleration, and i did also notice a rattling sound between 2500 - 3000 rpms. could a potentailly bad cat cause this code to come up?
hmm...I'll have to reference my serivce manual on this one, but I believe code 65 means there is some kind of short in the secondary o2 circuit. Not 100% sure though.
sometimes you can get a code with useing a high flow cat. but it would show up long before yours did. now as far as the rattling goes, the car my be broke inside and thats why its throwing the code. get under the car and hit the cat with your hand and see if you hear rattling insode, if so then the cat fell apart and this is your problem.also catco is know for their heat sheilds coming loose since they're just spot welded on, so check them also. i seen this a few times before with differant cat companies.

yeah if i pound on the cat it rattles...(doh) and i had the heat sheild taken off cuz it was rattling so bad. i just had another thought as well, i dont know if i couldve misread the vafc2 directions this badly or not, but this also didnt happend until i installed my vafc2 and my car went nuts. i disconnected all the wires and re taped all the wire taps i made. i wonder if i may have fucked up the wires from the sensor to the ecu.
dontblink, i dunno if you're gonna be doin it or not but im gonna be up at hybrid on thursday to get the vafc install done(i got frustrated). i'll ask whoever is gonna be doin the install to check all the wires, maybe i damaged the wire from the 02 sensor to the ecu in the middle of my frustrations....

Code 65 is the secondary O2 sensor heater... Not sure if a short circuit in the heater will trigger a code but I definetly know a open circuit will... i.e. if you run without the secondary O2 sensor plugged into the harness it will trigger this code. Look for a open in this circuit.
The cat will have no bearing on this particular code being stored.

Hey, get the car up off the ground and bang on the cat iwth a big mallet. If the cat is rattling, it probably is bad. Make sure it's not just the heat shield rattling.
If this is not it, try the wiring. make sure the harness doesn't have a loose wire or something like that. Good luck!
