Default Anyone thats knows about swaps in sOcal come. Help

I have a 96 ek and this guy at this shop told me that i can get a JDM engine the B16A 92-95 (SiR-II) and i will be able to pass smog/bar. He said that JDM engine doesn't come with a VIN. I forgot most of what he said but can i put an older engine in my car?! Legally?! I know that california has a rule that the engine in your car has to be of that year or newer. Does that ally to JDM engine?!

the engine has to be newer and you still have to go to the B.A.R station to make 100% legal

also how much are you paying for the complete b16 swap

Yeah it will never pass smog legally or be able to be BAR certified. Why bother getting a 2nd gen OBD1 B16 when you can get a 2nd gen OBD2 B16 for the same price? I don't understand why people do it the hard way *shakes head*

you cant use the 95 motor. 96 or newer. And youd have to set up everything to Si specs. It would be easy to get it smog legal if it was a newer motor. Although, USDM intake manifolds have an extra fiting for the purge solenoid. Atleast the OBDI motors. So you have to switch to a USDM intake manifold.

Yeah. I think some people rush in to the first good deal they see and don't really shop around enough.

Not exactly first good deal. I've been quoted everthing from 2500-4000 for a b16a2 some USDM and some b16a JDM's...I don't know much about smog and BAR. The guy i talked to said i could use an older model but, i know now that it would be illegal. Just when ever i come across a "good deal" there is always a catch.

Just get a Usdm engine.. not much difference and less hassle if your trying to do it legally. Getting a Usdm swap BAR'd is easier than a JDM. It's up to you though and what you plan on doin but that's just my .02. KEEP IT LEGAL!!!
