how would power be with 2.5 in. exhaust?
I bought a 99 civic si about a month ago, my friend with a integra type r bought a tr1 2.5 ehaust sytem with 2.5 in. headers and test pipe to match it. All together he got alot of power from it. I was wondering if my b16 could do the same power wise as his. does anyone know about this for my motor and the power it could produce. i know about the torque loss.
, im doing 2.25 to if u have torque loss , if it matters im going with a light wieght fly wheels should help put the power to the ground.. good luck
im an ebay *****
my exhaust was 2.5 catback and it cost 250$ all in all
i was retarded and ordered the one for the eg coupe instead of hatch
so i had to do a custom cut and weld job
but besides that the ebay/GReddy wanna be looks great its stainless steel and has not cause any problems..
nice and deep as well

I put 2.5 on my crx n/a and lost bottom end but picked up a good bit of top end power. With turbo this would be great as well as with nitrous. If you are stock you are going to lose off line performance. I recently put 2.25 on my civic z6 and it is good all around. I did not want to lose bottom end. Sounds good too.

Screw aftermarket cat back systems. Cost way too much. I went to a local reputable exhaust shop and had them custom make me a cat back 2.25 system with all stainless piping along with mounting my muffler i bought. It cost me $80 and they did a great job. I paid $75.00 for my muffler off ebay brand new. (most all aftermarket import mufflers are a straight through design and all perform the same no matter what they tell you. I have tried different ones from 5Zigen to HKS to cheap ebay fireball mufflers and found no differences on the dyno. Just different sounds.) Go ahead spend $250.00 to $500.00 for a cat back if you want the name. I'll stick to my $155.00 for mine and spend the other $100 to $350.00 on something else. Megan racing makes a killer muffler that has a deep tone and a silencer if you get annoyed like I do after a while. $75 on ebay. Just make sure the exhaust shop does not mount the muffler hanger on the muffler side. Tell them how you want it before they do it, or they will do it the easiest way. Your choice.
first off, disregard the torque loss. you drive a honda don't forget that... focus on topend pwr increases cuz that's the only place you'll get it with the b16 anyway. unless of course you plan on going FI.
if your plans are to stay NA, std aftermarket exhausts are fine. the variation between the 2.5" and 2.25" won't be that noticable anyway. IMO it's nothing to write home about at least. plans for FI you should def at minimum go with the 2.5" or step it up to 3".
Your buddy's R is going to pull harder due to the increased HP/torque #s its made with.
truly NOTICABLE gains arent going to be achieved with just an exhaust setup anyway. get some cams! a guy i work with has the stage 1 sk2 cams with boltons on his b16 si and it pulls nice
