Default DA: Minimum Flywheel Thickness/Weight

Anyone know what the Factory service manual says? I don't need anyone replying with things like 'u c4n g0 like 7lbz y0.'

I'm just looking to stay as OEM as possible with the least amount of weight possible. TIA

OEM as in OEM DA flywheel. I'd like to machine it down to the minimum thickness allowed in the Factory service manual.

SCCA's STS class won't allow anything other than an OEM flywheel.

if you want to stay OEM the lightest is probably type r which is 15 lbs. Other than that mayb streetlite which is 12lbs.

The factory manual won't actually give you the lowest allowable weight - it'll give you a service limit that the stock one can be machined down to. My repair manual's back home so I can't read you those specs off hand, but someone probably can.

The lowest I've heard of is 7.** pounds aftermarket. Fidanza..maybe? I think my Fidanza is 8 lbs, or something around there. Perfect weight for me, IMO.

If you want OEM, you can buy a used Type-R flywheel for around $100 depending where you look. Those are 14 lbs compared to our 18 lb factory flywheels (correct those numbers if I'm wrong). You won't notice a large difference, but I'm sure it's enough to notice. My 7 lb flywheel didn't make *that* much of a difference, so go figure

I'm sorry, OEM as in OEM DA flywheel. I'd like to machine it down to the minimum thickness allowed in the Factory service manual.

psychotic_z - If you could check that'd be great.

To everyone else: I'm not looking for an aftermarket, OEM ITR or any other OEM clutch. Just the minimum allowed for the DA chassis.

Heh sorry, misunderstanding - My manual's at home home and I'm in school 200 miles away

I'll be heading back for Spring Break on Monday or Tuesday, and if no one's answered this for you yet, I'll look it up and check it for you

But seriously, some of you guys looking at this post have to have their Haynes or Helms manual sitting around.

Hey sorry bro, I completely forget about this thread this week. I just looked up my Helms for a flywheel spec. and surprisingly - there's nothing about minimum thickness. The only flywheel specification listed is clutch surface runout. A minimum thickness isn't even suggested.

This is the Helms as well - if it's not in here, the Haynes or lesser manuals won't either. You'd figure they'd list something like that but... I think your best bet is doing some research into how low other people shave theirs and doing some experimenting of your own.

to SCCA racing - Good luck bro.

Hmm... I think I'll give the dealership a call. Thanks for the help.

Yes, to SCCA.

The 1996 FSM only lists a total surface runout limit of 0.15mm (0.006"). It does not mention resurfacing the flywheel at all.

The flywheels are interchangeable for B-series, so the specs should also be the same.

The class I RACE in (SCCA's STS class) does not allow a different flywheel.

Can anyone verify the FSM 'no-spec' on the flywheel?

ty

the only reason i got mad is because of the insults btw
