Okay some of u might have seen my thread where I said my car wasn't starting up on the first try.

Well today I was messing with it and I tried starting it on the first try. And I started it up on the first try but immediately when it starts up, the car makes a weird rumble and then what sounds like a scratching and it stalled. And then on the 2nd try it started up fine.

Anyone know what this noise is?

I can tell you that it SEEEEEMS like its coming from the alternator but that is just a really really really big guess, cuz i'm sitting in the car so I cant say exactly where its coming from.

Oh and this scraping noise is not like the weird noise when you try to start the car when its already started. Its just a real abrupt scratch/rumble for a split second before the car dies.

So it just starts up, scratch/rumbles and then immediately dies

thats crazy maybe have some one else start it while your checking under the hood.

I would say go ahead and get one of your buddies to start the car, while you get under the hood... Or Visa Versa, pending on who is more mechanically inclined. But the noise should be pretty easy to pin point with your ear right there...

Sounds a little strange to me... Hope it clears up ok.

I haven't had a chance to get a friend to come over and listen to where the noise is coming from... but does anyone have even the slightest clue to what the noise might be?
