What is the most common problem with an Integra?
Hi,
Well, after my pos Sentra giving me problems and then the problems being fixed and what not, I have decided not to take any more chances and get rid of it while it still runs.
Instead, I want to get a nice Integra GSR in the 95-01 range. I need to know what the most common problem with the Integra is, regardless of the model? I have heard the tranny is problematic and that is a HUGE turn off for me. Can it be that bad and is it easy to fix/replace? I don't want to be wrenching every week. I don't do any wrenching but you get what I'm saying.
In any case, are these cars bullet proof or are they as problematic as oh...a Sentra? I know I know, with the correct maintenance every car SHOULD run fine but Sentras are the exception, trust me.
Damn enough about Sentras, how are Integras as far as reliability is concerned? Are OBD1 motors more reliable than OBD2? If so, why?
Thank you

The most common problem for Integras, especially GSRs, is getting stolen. That's the real drawback to owning one in my eyes. I have owned both a 2000 GSR and a 1992 LS. I have liked both cars, and never had any transmission problems.
I don't know where you heard that Integras have transmission problems, but that is not the case. The only issues people run into are getting grinds due to synchro wear, usually in 2nd gear. I think this is due to driver error more than design of the transmission. I think that pales in comparison the infamous 5th gear popout seen on 91-94 Sentra SE-Rs.

Hmm...maybe the syncros are what I am referring to. Not sure exactly. Is it easy to fix this 'problem'?
Lol, the infamous gear popout you mention for the older Sentra SERs exists with the new ones too, believe it or not! First gear and reverse. :D Theft is an issue for most nice cars (i know it's more so for the GSR) but not something I want to think about for the time being.
LanoJp1: What problems are you having with it and are you boosting?
Tampa94Lsteg: What is a CV joint?
If I find a GSR that is basically stock (meaning the driver did not really race it because he showed no interest in modding it) with around 120,000 miles, how much life can I expect out of it with normal use? I know there are lots of variables but make belief it's your normal used car with out boost or any mods for that matter with that many miles. Should it run fine for a while?

Another problem is the stock radiator. It WILL leak at the top seal around 80,000 miles. That's just how the Integra radiator works. But getting a good aftermarket one will fix that. The radiator isn't terribly hard to replace so if you like OEM parts, just keep getting a new one every time it leaks (around 80,000 miles). Or the leak isn't that bad either. Just let it leak.
Other than that and the above mentioned problems, I don't think there is anything else.
CV Joint is the end of the axel, last universal joint before it connects to your HUB. I really haven't ever had a problem with mine..
And you'll have to ask someone else about how long it'll last. I've heard of Integra's having 200k-250k miles on them. But others are best suited to answering this question.

common problems
get water in the trunk because the tail light gaskets get old
antenna gets old and noisy
if the suspension is stock, the rear lower control arm bolts almost always seize up, use an pneumatic impact gun to get these buggers off

cv joints (along with everything else listed here) happen with age and will happen on any car really. as far as transmission problems, same thing, but most have never had problems and never will. it is a solid car, the only problem i've had with mine is the dipstick tube coming out, which affects some and not others. 20 dollar part, but warranty covered it. if you maintain the car it will go forever, but it will be stolen before that ever happens

I must be lucky then, because I've got just shy of 90K on my teg, origional timing belt (replacing it in a few weeks JUST to be safe) and origional radiator, no leaks, no sign of it even thinking of leaking.
*knock on wood*

IMO the Integra doesn't have any big problem areas. They dumb problems like the taillight gaskets leaking, and other stupid stuff like that but that's expected. I also think the transmissions are built very well and the only time you are going to have synchro problems is if the vehicle was romped on (driver error). I have 251,000 miles on my '90 teg and the tranmission has never ground going into gear (synchro). My '90 teg has had it's share of dumb problems (mainly stupid electrical stuff), but it looks like Honda fixed all those things when they went to the DC.
The tranny will be fine as long as you treat it well. My only complaint is water leaking into the trunk area of the vehicle and the window rattle when the window is down partially. Maintenance is key just like any other vehicle.
Hmm...those sound like pretty easy fixes too. I don't mind those and I really don't mind swapping a new aftermarket radiator so no biggy.
Thanks everyone!
Thanks everyone!
if u get one with a moonroof they tend to leak around the drain tubes. A design flaw with the integra is when it rains huge amounts of water get into your chasis .... and it can get really stinky/ embarassing in there
THEFT!!!!
my 99 4dr Blue GSR got stolen june 2004 in San diego... Mother ******* man.. i love that thing..
But now im running a 92 RS teg with b16 swap.. so.. THEFT.. I need a new alarm system.. the works.. **** getting this one stolen.

Amen to that brother
I addition to that:
Hatch leaks
Tail lights leak
Hatch squeaks
Exhaust heat shield rattles
Door panels squeaks
Synchros
Stock clutch
if camber is off tires go quite quick
retarded little misc. electrical problems
Distributor
VTEC sylinoid
