I didn't realize you guys had been looking for one for so long.
Yosh, where did you guys get the replica from? What are the big differences between the replica and the original Mugen hood. I really hate to be un-authentic, but there may be no option.
Larkin: Yeah, I have been thinking about it - but the hood situation really has me discouraged
Sunday would be the best day to catch me, give me a call.

I think mike got on ebay. This thing was F|_|cked up really bad. Took alot of work to get it to the point of being able to put it on the car, but it's on. If a used Mugen one can be located in Jpn, I have no clue how we'd be able to get it over w/o getting damaged

yep, it's been tough for all of us here @ yoshi co. the sight of the '98, though beautiful in itself, just isn't quite right with out the last piece of the mugen masterpiece.
good luck to you too! if you come across two, let mikehonda know. i'm sure we'll extend the same to you as well.

mugen = quality. and, quality costs money.
All mugen products that I have owned served a function. They were expensive, but worth every penny to me. I can't stand cheaply made replica that just quite doesn't fit 100% correctly.

That car has been terribly de-valued.
You guys let ME sit in it.
That's bad luck right there.

i will agree that mugen makes very quality parts. however, i would like to argue that for a cf hood, vis makes quality cf hoods. it may not be the same design, but effective in what it's for. however, i do not know the weight savings for the mugen or vis cf hoods over the oem hood.

The other functional factor in regards to the Mugen hood coupled with the Mugen bumper is the cooling affect it has for the engine. The weight is a secondary bonus for me. I wanted to get the Mugen bumper and hood - plus I think the hood looks a bit more agressive than the stock hoods that come on the JDM DC2s.

I wish you guys luck too Yosh and Mike. Damn, I didn't think it would be that difficult, you guys have been looking for some time.
Any chance that we could show enough demand and get Mugen to make another batch

Justin @ A&J Racing is rockin' a Buddy Club CF hood that he had painted to match the car. I looks similar to the Mugen one. You should hit him up for a price.

You can always lightly sand the bottom of the hood and re coat the carbon fiber with boron fiber and fresh epoxy if your seriously worried about heat soak.

Mugen hoods do not have a glossy finish to them, I don't think that's a genuine Mugen piece.
Part of the reason for the high cost of the Mugen hoods is that they were produced using an autoclave, and they have a much higher quality standard than that of mass produced hoods.

Any explanation as to the finish on it? Any pictures of the underside of the hood?
I found a few pics in the archives of a real Mugen hood.
