How did you cut your Valve cover for cam gear adjustment?

How did you cut your Valve cover for cam gear adjustment?
Did you use a compass? Protractor? What size? I'm gonna test on a black cover and if it comes out good, I'll do the ITR cover.

I would´nt do it on the stock valve cover (or that one you put for driving on your car). I wuold be too scared if dirt or anything goes in.
