i already tried jumpstarting... it works but stalls like 5 seconds later. then we got it up the driveway and it wont start at all. jumpstarting wont help either
The starter grounds thru its own mounting to the bellhousing. What's important to check is the big ground cable from the engine/tranny to the body. If that's loose/corroded/dirty, it'll do this.
Same thing with the battery cables. Check both ends, not just the clamps on the battery posts. Have the (-) disconnected while you mess with the (+) cable.
Battery should read 12 v when nothing's running. While you try to start, it shouldn't drop much. While the engine's running it should be above 13 v.
If the battery voltage drops below 8 while trying the starter, the battery's discharged. It may be able to be charged back up, or maybe it won't hold a charge.
If the battery stays at 12 v but the starter doesn't crank, check ALL cables & then bang on the starter with something.
See what happens with this stuff & let us know.

You definitely have a ground problem. The very first thing you have to do though is take the battery to a automotive store to see if it holds a charge. If that is not the prob then the thich wire that runs from tranny to the chassis under the the intake box. most likely this cable is worn out or does not have enough conductivity. to test that ground the engine to the frame with your jumper cables and try to start the car. There is no way you are have major electrical problems from waht you have described so far........ unless your holding out on us!

Yea buddy, your ingnitor can't short out the headlights, unless you personally have some creative wiring. The problem is electrical and has nothing to do with the battery or alternator. I would check all the grounds and make sure all the connections are good.

dude i bet u its the corrosion on ur terminals. u might need new ones or just polish the ones u have. thats y theres no power coming into ur car witt a new battery. this happened to me too. if its that, lemme know

Use a multi-meter - cheap ones at carparts stores are like $10.
