B16 distributer, would this make my car shut off? PLEASE PLEASE help!
i hear b16's eat up distributers. so my car has been acting funny. it wont run, for more than ten seconds. and the wierd thing is, right before it shuts off, the tach jumps to zero, although the engine is still running, 5-10 seconds later, it shuts off. this is why i blame the distributer, also cuase i guess they go bad a lot?
it seems like, the longer i let the car sit, the longer it runs.
sat for three hours, started it, it ran for three minutes. shuts off. so wait five to ten minutes, start it, only runs for twenty minutes.
could this be becuase the distributer gets hot, then it doesnt work. and when the engine cools down, it then works?
i really need help i am about to drive to a shop that is close by where it broke down and if i could pin point the exact problem i will take it home and just let it sit until i can afford a distributer.

its a '90 dx with '87 b16a swap.
i first related it to fuel problem but we took hoses off and they seemed to shoot out fuel pretty good when i was pumping it.
if anyone knows what the problem is please do me a favor of saving $100 to have someone else trouble shoot this.
thanks again.
:edit:
also will non vtec LS distributers fit? or will a '95 ex dist. fit? i have one laying around, or can i swap the internals? thanks.

dont think you can swap all the internals between odb0 and obd1's i know all the 92-95 civic ditributors contain the same internals, i pulled the innards out of a dx dizzy and put them in my b16a2 dizzy, but i have an odb1 b16
But when my distributor died (twice now) the car shut off while running, and wont start again just turn and turn and almost start, but never actually did. But i did have a d15z1 before that had a bad map sensor that would run randomly for a few minutes and then die, have you tried reseting the computer and see how long it runs? or if it has an error stored in it?

the computer seemed to throw a 21 and 22 code, but i cant find out what taht means for my computer.
what kind of distributer do i need? wont a '99 si work?
so are you saying the 92-95 internals will work? also waht is a dizzy.
and is there a part of the distributer that is affected by heat? when the engine is cold it runs a lot longer.n (4-5 minutes)
thanks!

I FIXED IT I FIXED IT
TTT
it was the ignitor, aka ignition module.
the '95 ex distributer ignitor fit.
i found out that a '99 b16a2 dist. is a little different than mine.
the b16 distributers have compatible ignitors and coil packs with the older ex's.
but the ex coil pack didnt fit into my dist. (OBD0 distributor)
does any one nkow what distributor fits a b16a1?????
my grandpa said he had a toyota that did the same thing as my car...run for five minutes shut off...run for 5 shut off.
and it was the module. so yep fixed in case anyone else has this problem.

woah! u fixed it, that's ******* awesome. U saved some money dawg, that's even better. Ya, my 99 si, that i just got 2 weeks ago, stopped on me too. I've been trying to figure out what the hell it is. 2 mechanics have come to see it, and we're about ready to tow that **** to another mechanic. I'm going to try the "module". I'm not sure what that is, but I'll try to figure it out? i've been looking at a bunch of threads, and i'm about to start my own. Sorry, didn't mean to post my prob all over your thread, i'm just happy that u got your ride going, so I'm going to try the module.
bump for an informative thread!!!
