i went under the car to do the first oil change since i bought the car and the oil pan plug is stripped so i tried using a vice grip to get it off but it would budge. i can hardly get a grip on the bolt, whoever messed with it before really messed it up, so can anyone tell me how to get it off, thanks
P.S. i did search and everyone just basically said to use the vice grip

Go buy a new plug while you are out.

 

95% of the damage was done by whoever changed the oil last or atleast tried to change the oil

i was thinking about buying a new oil pan but i dont want to go spend the money when i kno there is a way to get this off. someone has got to have an idea of how to lol

I would just soak the bastard in penetrating oil and go at it with vice grips until it came off. But since you already tried that I dont know what else to tell you except drill it out......but that would make one serious mess.

 

you don't have to drill all the way through it, just go to lowes, homedepot wherever you feel like shopping and buy a screw extractor. It's like a normal screw only threaded the other way and you lightly tap it in there and with a lot of pressure to keep it in place slowly turn. That's not in a bad place at all.

 

damn man.. thats pretty hard core.. I'd say drill it out or get a new pan.. What kind of car is this for? I might have a pan..... They really **** that bolt up

dont be weak, use the vice grips and tighten that sucker up, and put some ***** in it when you squeeze them together..

Im going to take it to one of my friends shop and see if he can get it off and if he cant ill go and look for the screw extractor. do you have any idea how much it is? thanks for all the responses

 

That bolt out thing from sears will work. Just get one that will tightly fit on the plug and hammer it on then you can get it off. Or if that doesn't work, go for the screw extractor idea.

i cant get a good grip on the bolt, it will seem like it has a good grip and when i go to pull it jus slips right off and i dont want to mess up the bolt even more than it is now

 

that bolt is too messed up to get a good grip from vice grips.. I'll sell you an oil pan for 50 shipped... thats about the same cost as the extractor kit.... If you choose to go with the kit hopefully it will work.. that bolt looks almost completely rounded.. I did get a stripped head bolt out of a motor before and those are torqued to like 70lbs so I think it'l work..

 

Dude the bolt out thing costs $20 at sears.

Either use the vice grips at the very base of the bolt or go buy the screw extractor. I'm sure throughout your life you'll have many uses for it.

 

thats crazy! You can get a new pan and bolt from honda for around 80$ but then you have to get a gasket witch cost me 33$

 

you could try a dremel to cut a nice slot in there, use a big flat head screwdriver and it should come off

The dremel tool idea above mine is a good idea, forgot about that, last couple times I've needed to ez out something it's been recessed.

The little drill bit looking thing I'm talking about is like $1.88, no point in not getting it, it'll have you done in 2 minutes if you don't have a demel.

 

dont forget to get nut bolt and washer

how the hell did they do that, did they use a impact gun on that and it just shredded it?

see if you can hammer on a smaller socket on there.
