Default Honda CVCC 1300FE for sale.

So after several requests and inquiries, I got together some pics of the Civic, and put together a little bio about it. I'm going to be as honest as I can about it, because I want you to have as much knowledge about the vehicle before you consider buying. Enjoy!

THE HISTORY:
from Edmunds.com

1980-1983
A new, sleeker body and increases in wheelbase and base-model engine size marked the 1980 Civic. The wheelbase now measured 88.6 inches for the hatchback (the two-door "sedan" was dropped) and 91.3 inches for the wagon. All Civic engines now used the CVCC design; the base 1,335cc ("1300") engine made 55 horsepower, while the 1,488 ("1500") produced 67 horsepower. Three transmissions were offered: a four-speed manual (on base models), a five-speed manual and a two-speed automatic.

The Civic 1300 and 1500 came in base and DX versions, and the latter featured a five-speed manual, rear window defroster, intermittent wipers and a cigar lighter. The 1500 GL added radial tires, a rear window wiper/washer, tachometer, clock and bodyside moldings. The Civic wagon came in a single version that was tantamount to the DX trim level.

A four-door sedan debuted for 1981, as did a three-speed automatic transmission that replaced the primitive two-speed unit.

Rectangular headlamps and black bumpers appeared on the 1982 Civic. A new gas-sipping model, the five-speed "FE" (Fuel Economy) was introduced and was rated at 41 mpg in the city and 55 mpg on the highway.

The sporty new Civic "S" replaced the 1500 GL in 1983 and was fitted with a firmer suspension (with rear stabilizer bar) and 165/70R13 Michelin tires. A red accent encircled the S and set it apart from the other Civics.

THE GOODS:

The 1300FE is the "no frills" model that was offered for the 2G. No power steering, air conditioning, rear wiper, etc. Weighing in at 1670 pounds stock, this is one of the lightest full interior Civics around (even lighter than the CRX!). This car has some great potential.

165K miles on the odometer. Averaging 7200 miles per year, you can see it hasn't been abused. It's the original engine and the dealership/garage I purchased it specializes in tuning Honda's and Acura's, so it runs very well for it's age.

The car was repainted at some point in it's life, and it's in great shape. It may not be the prettiest color (brown metallic, hand painted pin stripes) but this car was babied and has VERY little rust. Has parking lot dings as any car this age would.

I have replaced the headlights (H6054) with crystal reflector type headlights, and H4 Silverstars. Much brighter than stock.

Stock 5 speed transmission is still strong.

Wheels are OEM Honda 13" steelies (silver) and Cooper Wintermaster tires were mounted in January.

The axels are the same as the later model Civics. D-series mounts and a D16z6 or ZC drops in without a hitch.

Weld in DC2 mounts and it takes a B-Series engine no problem. The engine bay looks small, but it takes's a b20/vtec without cutting.

The car is carb'd and has mechanical fuel deliver, not electric fuel delivery. Any swaps done will have to address this issue. I have an electric fuel pump at the buyer's request (free of charge).

Along with the axels, the brake system is interchangable with that of the newer Civics/Integras. I was planning on doing a GSR conversion, and I'll have the parts I already acquired (EBC rotors, QuietStop pads) available in another sale thread.

THE DIRT:

First things first, the windshield. As you can see in the pic, it's cracked. I called American Auto and Plate Glass this morning, and they quoted me a price for the windshield $281.35 installed. I'm sure you can find a "friend of a friend" that can do it cheaper.

Second, the battery. I threw out the garbage that was in there when I bought it, and replaced it with a Yellow Top. I'm keeping it for my MX6, so you're going to need a replacement. It's only a 1.3 liter, doesn't need a lot of cranking amps. Fifty dollars max.

The passenger side headlight trim is missing. Both were missing when I purchased the vehicle, but I picked up the Driver's side one for $10 with shipping off ebay.

I recently have put in 10W-30 high milage synthetic so it burns less oil (as all older engines do), but it's a beast when it's cold out. It's my mistake and I probably have put in 5W-30, but after it warms up this oil should be fine (changed last month). After it warms up runs great, and on warmer days (above freezing) starts up like a champ.

As you can see in the pics, the driver's seat is in pretty bad shape, but that's expected with a 23 yr old car. Seat covers temporarily, stock seats or upgrade to newer gen seats.

Missing gas door, standard circle opening. Hasn't been on the car for the duration that I've owned it. Universal gas door (Audi TT style) would look clean on it, or a generic circle one can be easily had.

The muffler seen in the pics is a Mugen Twin Loop. I'm keeping that as well but will replace it with a generic universal muffler before sale.

Lastly, the flex pipe. It needs to be replaced. I've had it patched up there with some aluminum flashing and some hose clamps. It works fine (held up for six months) but I wanted to be honest before you get under there. I've called around and for a temporary fix, $40 at Evolution in Troy will get you straight pipe, and Broadway will weld in a universal up to 2" for $75.

These pictures were taking today (3/10/05) at the wash.

and finally...
THE PRICE

The lowest NADA value for this car is $1725. The FE was low production and is very well sought after. I'm a reasonable person and understand that although it's definitely not a parts car, it's going to need some work to make it road legal (albeit I'm driving it currently). Taking those things into consideration:

1725 -Book Value
- 285 -Windshield
- 75 -Flexpipe
- 50 -Battery
- 115 -Misc
$1200

And there we have it. I'd like to get $1200 for this vehicle, but I'm open to offers. There are a LOT more ppl interested in this Civic than I expected there to be, from the Honda collectors, import modders, to the street/strip racers. If you're looking for a unique vehicle, you will have the only 1300FE in the area. This is it.

Thanks for the props guys.

Here's a couple more pics I took this morning.

The engine bay:

Sorry for the pic being fuzzy, but assure you it's clean. Simple Green works wonders.

The classic all open shot:

The suicide hood really is an eye catcher!!
