Default Base vs. SH drive shafts (cv axles)??

I see that these cv axles have different part numbers........but is there a difference? I just swapped my Type SH tranny/block for a base, and kept the type SH axles because the guy i got the block from was using SH axles and said he had no problems getting them to fit. well......i had no problems either, until yesterday when i was driving to school and the passenger's axle popped out of the tranny. for some reason i can't quite get it to clip in all the way, it's about 1/8th inch from going all the way in.

Would a base axle solve my problem? i went ahead and ordered one already, but i just wanted to know the difference b/t the two. i guess i'll put them side by side to see if there is any difference once the new one comes in.

what did you do? just beat the **** out of it until it finally went in? i've tried that. i guess i could get a buddy to hit it with a sledge hammer while i hold something on the end of the shaft, but i was doing this by myself. it's a tough job for one person.

keep in mind the base and the sh knuckles are slightly different.. The only thing im sure of that is different is that there are 2 ball joints on the bottom, i dont have the measurements on them but i have some side by side pics at home..

here are the measurements of the axels:

4th gen right: 507.9-512.9mm
4th gen left: 520.9-525.9mm
5th gen right ATTS: 497-497.5mm
5th gen left ATTS: 485-486mm
5th gen right no ATTS: 505-510mm
5th gen left no ATTS: 484-484.5mm

(information provided by 4bidden using the helms manual)

wow, thanks for that reply. i can now see why it's not working for me. everytime i go to pop it in there.......the splines on the hub side go in so far that they fall out of the inside of the hub, so then i have to line them back up again. with another centimeter i have more room to knock the other side in there.
