overheating problem?96 accord
when my car sits idle the temp gauge will rise to hot , they i will give it a lil gas and it will go back to normal temp. can anyone tell me what the problem is?
Is your motor stock? Try changing your antifreeze. The reason it cools off when you rev the engine is that the coolant is flowing faster and more is going through the radiator. My car did the same thing, and although it still runs a little on the hot side, changing the antifreeze with a good mix of the Honda stuff helped out a lot.
I had that same problem on my 1996 Accord LX. I took out the thermostat and made sure it was working properly by submerging it in some boiling water. This "exercises" the spring. I also changed the antifreeze but noticed nothing unusual. Good luck!
