Default Storing the Battery

I plan on removing my battery and won't be using it at least half a year. Are there any storage processes so that the battery does not get ruined from sitting too long?

Unless it is an expensive one, just replace it. Batteries should be replaced every 3 years.

<slaps forehead> Wow, if only I had known! No truer words of interweb wisdom have I heard before

I've had the same battery since '97 and I've been storing it 7 months at a time for the last 5 years. All you need to do is keep it in a warm dry place and before you are ready to reinstall it, charge it slowly using a trickle charger.

You have to charge them every once in a while or else they will go bad.
