car wont shut off

car wont shut off
i just picked up a 94 DX coupe tonight with a y8 motor. still running dx harness tho 
. n e way car runs and drives fine(check engine light is on) but the weird thing is when you shutoff the key all the interior things shut of (heater ,radio) but cluster and all the lights like check engine,brake,srs all that stay on and motor stays running??????????? n e idea where to check 1st????

i dont really know how to deal with it
but my firend had the same problem
to prevent out of battery,
he took off the wire or the fuse and then replug those in
