Default $1500 too expensive for an engine with installation???

I have a 93 civic lx. The engine i currently have is at 233,000 miles. I blew the head or something. i was told my valves might be toast, my head might be toast. I think instead of spending like 700 to get it fixed i might as well get a jdm motor installed because of the mileage the old motor has. The place i called said no more than 1500 dollars working, with a new water pump and timing belt. I need some input on price, websites, advise, or anything. do you think its too expensive. Oh i live in 2 hrs away from LA if anybody knows where there are some good performance shops of websites around. Thanx for everybody who give me some input. And nice job to everybody with nice rides. i look up to all of you. -Ben-

Maybe $1000, all inclusive with the new timing belt, water pump, and installation. Assuming that the motor in question is a D15B. Realistically, $1000 is what I'd quote someone being that the tranny, clutch and flywheel have to be moved over to the new longblock. And water pump replacement is cake with the motor out of the car.

I would just buy a complete swap and do the labor yourself.. save yourself about a grand.. Swaps are a peice of cake and theres plenty of info and help here to walk you through it if you dont know

Thanx everybody for your input. I contacted JPR Motorsports @ http://www.jprmotorsports.com and they told me that was way too much too swap for a d16, they told me they would swap in a b16 DOHC vtec for 1200. That sounds a lot better. Does anybody ever encounter any problems with their computers getting changed for the vtec?? should i do it?

well i'm sure they meant just the labor

you're still going to have to get a b16 which will run you a couple grand.

They meant they'll swap in a b16 $1200 but you have to buy the complete swap first(engine, tranny, ecu, wire harness all that stuff) so be prepared to spend close to $2500.

Oh yea, I think 1500 is to much for a d15 swap

Thanx for the input again. I got it right now. JPR Motorsports offered me a b16 SOHC Vtec for 1200 total with the ecu. They said theres no warranty on it because there are too many weekend racers out there that try to say its their fault when they blew it racing. And they also said it comes with 30 to 40 thousand miles on it. So does that sound right to all of you now? also does anybody know of some sites where i can find cheap body kits, and rims?? Thanx everybody!

in the LA area the going rate for a B16 swap is around 2800-3000 for swap and labor, if you want to do all the timing belt and waterpump stuff that is usually extra.
IM me if you would want to do something or have any questions.
