hey guys, i have a 96 civic hx with uber high miles ( 180k ) and im starting to hear this pinging/tapping sound coming from what sounds like inside the exhaust. it use to just do it occasionally but now its more frequent. any ideas?

 

Check your valve lash.
Just get a feeler gauge and pop you valve cover and go through the same process you would to set the valve lash except don't loosen or undo anything.
Key word checking.

If the lash is looseer(out of spec) on some valves than others adjust those ones back into spec.. The ones that are still snug leave them alone.

 

What he said. Also could just be your injectors. They're suppose to pulse. Probably your vlave lash or just something loose vibrating against something
