name of bearing/piece at the end of the axle
for the past few months ive been having a very annoying clicking sound from my front left wheel area while driving normally..i was told it prob wasnt the axle since the clicks only happen during turns and my boots werent ripped..well today big o tires examined it and it turns out my axle is bent and the clicking is coming from what they call the carrier bearing? its the circular piece thats at the end of the axle..anyone know what thats called and why that would be making noise? how much is it to purchase and replace that piece..or just changing the axle should fix the noise?
i think its called a wheel bearing. i've seen them online at acura parts stores. i think they go for around $50-60 ea. i dont know if or why it would make noise however..
you should probably get that bent axle fixed though.

i was told its the intermediate shaft? can anyone explain why id need to replace that along with my bent axle..whys it clicking? the shop said replace axle since its bent and the intermediate shaft since it clicks inside?
carrier bearing is the mount on the back of the block that holds the intermediate shaft. the intermediate shaft is what your driver side axle splines into. the intermediate shaft splines into the transmission. the carrier bearing could be clicking because the bent axle could be pushing against the bearing inside the carrier in a weird way that is causing the bearing to wear. a worn bearing usually makes whats known as a whuring noise, but a click wouldn't be out of the question. the shop sounds correct if the axle is bent. carrier bearing probably isn't a cheap part though, i'd find a junk yard one or someone that has one. the axle will cost about 75 after core for a re-man.
