Default '95 Accord 4cyl - starts but dies immediately

Okay I need some help here Honda-Tech. '95 Accord 4dr 4cyl. I can get it to start by pumping the gas pedal and holding the ignition engaged all the way to the START position. When it twists back to accessory position it dies. Also it won't start up without pumping the gas pedal. What do you think is the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Todd

I really don't think the gas pedal has any efect on the engine b/c of you being fuel injected your fuel is controlled by the ecu. How many miles are on the car? When was your last tune up? Could be a malfuntion with your ignition switch.

So are you saying the "dizzy" is bad or maybe it just needs a new cap/rotor.

I had an ignitor go bad in my '92 hatch once.

Yeah could be that too. We tried changing the fuel filter first and that BITCH wouldn't come off. WTF!? Anyone have any tips on how to get it off?!

Best bet is to consult the haynes/ Helms manual but it should just be either on there with clamps or a bolt. I took mine off the other day when I pulled my motor.

dude, to take off that filter..I took it to the shop. I had to pay $70 labor but it was there problem and they did it. They took out the master cylinder and put that to the side for more room (they kept the brake lines connected to the master cylinder). How many miles do your car have? What octane do you usually pump? Do you hear the fuel pump relay?

Might be the fuel pump. I had that problem today when I was parked on an incline with a little bit of gas left in the car. Wouldn't stay running till I got it on level ground.

that's normal to be on an incline with little gas left. it's good to keep atleat 1/4 of a tank of gas @ all times so let's say if you are on an incline, your fuel pump doesn't have to work twice as hard.

The fuel pump is working. I can hear it unless it's normal to hear it and it's bad. LOL.

Well if it twists back to the accessory position then the car should die, its supposed to switch back to ignition. assuming thats what you meant... check the main PGMFI relay.

I think fuel pump problems on an incline are usually old mechanical pumps.

Going around in circles i see. Man, what kind of advice is all this?

Yellow dragon, describe your problem a bit better.

1. Does it do it all the time, or only hot, cold, or warm?
2. When it does start, does it idle roughly. Can you maintain idle without your foot on the gas?
3. Did it just start doing this all of a sudden?
4. Did you run out of gas lately?
5. When you get it started, and it stalls, do your lights or radio shut off also?

That was my same problem w/ my '95 4cyl wagon. I got a new one installed and it runs/starts fine. Go replace it and you'll be all set.
