Y-8 Dist in OBD-0 wiring
I have a Y-8 in my 89 Hatch and I would like to put a distributor in without having to cut the slots out to fit adjust the timing correctly, Does anyone know if the Y-8 or Z6 dist will or can be made to work with OBDS-0? Or any other way around this?
no, obd2 (y8) and obd1 (z6) dizzys can not work with obd0 ecu's. if you swapped over to odb1 and rewired whatever it take (not sure) i have heard that the y8 dizzy will line up to y8 heads (of course) and like an a6 head.. can anyone back me up?
what head are you running?

The A6 dist should bolt up exactly with the y8/y7/y5 heads along with the b7/b8 heads. I have used the following setups
-b8 dist(OBD1) on a a6 head/cx block running on a p06(obd1)ecu with no problems
-y7 dist(OBD2) on a y5(HX) head on a z6 bock on a p28(obd1) in my current car
Just swap the connectors and call it a day or make a sub harness to save from have from hacking any of the original harness and the dist connectors. Just find a dist that works with the head and just swap connectors. Don't worry bout it being a vtec or nonvtec dist and using it on a vtec/nonvtec ecu. This isn't rocket science.

OK the distributor lines up and works, the car is drivable now, but the timing cannot be adjusted to spec with the A6 dist. I wind up with an extra 12 degrees of advance. (too much) I have seen people cut the legs on the distributor base, but I would like to avoid that as it looks too ghetto. Can I take the guts out of my A6 dist and put them in the body of a Y-8?

PM6
Are the internals that much different?

its not the internals.... its the ignition setup for ecus. OBD0 ecu is not compatiable with OBD1 and OBD2, but you said its running... i dont know im confused now

Yes the car is running and running fairly well. I am using a PM6 ECU with the OBD-0 distributor. I cannot adjust the ignition timing to the correct specs with out cutting the three legs that bolt the distributor to the cylinder head. I want to avoid cutting the slots out on the distributor to get the timing spot on (in spec). The difference is that the A6 VS the Y8 is about 12 degrees as to where the relationship is to the distributor legs mounting to the cylinder head. Any clearer?
Probably not, but from what I have read, most people just slot the distributor slots out the rest of the way so the A6 distributor will be able to adjust to the correct spec.
I would post pics, but I don't want to cut my distributor!
What I want to do is use the distributor body from a Y8 so that the timing will line up correctly. I don't give a **** OBD-0 OBD-2 V-Tec non V-Tec what I want is distributor mounted on engine looking like it's supposed to, not like someone glued it together in their backyard

Advanced, but if I retard the cam then the timing marks are off and the car runs like crap!
