Dragradials what to choose
Hi there!
How much more traction has Mickey Thomsons Drag Radials 235-60-15
compared to BFG's 225-50-15 ?
The bad thing with the MT's is that they are a little to big for my CRX.
Any other suggestions, the rules are that the tires need to be DOT.

I'll let you know Thursday. I still haven't run them yet. I have run BFG's and Hoosier 24.5x8x13 slicks, so I'll have a good basis for comparison. They're actually a little bigger and wider than my 24.5x8's.

It's a new model, so I have no idea, but my old Hoosier slicks lasted forever. They still have tons of tread on them and I've made dozens of runs in them.
One of the local guys just bought those hoosier tires for his RSX but he had back luck with them after he claims to drive for 2 miles.

and then another guy said that same think happen to his cousins rsx with a different tire and he said maybe it had something to do with RSX suspension.
I personally still want to try it out...

If you drive them on the street that will happen.
BFG is the best because for street/strip because it has grooves in the tires.

I drove my BFG's on the street all the time, but I wouldn't even try it in the Hoosiers, they got no tread! If I was going to run slicks in thestreet I'd get the Hoosier road course tires, which also don't have any tread, but they are designed to run on the street for extended periods with some cornering.

still shouldnt cause that to happen. I know people that drive to the track on slicks and that doesnt happen. Looks like low tire pressure caused it but i dont know for sure.

yeah i punctured an azeni on a overpass with no shoulder. by the time i got off and onto a shoulder thats what my tire looked like. rim basicly cut the tread right off. Say a guy at the street races in houston do the same thing because the dumb bastard thought running 6psi in his radials would give better traction

There's warnings all over the tire not to drive it on the street. The tire place I got it from said that their Hoosier distributor sent them a notice with the tires that they had to tell me not to drive it on the street. On the Web site it says not to drive it on the street. I don't think Hoosier should do anything about it unless it failed at the track under track use. I don't know why it went out like that, but there could be a number of reasons. It may not be designed to dissipate the heat from continuous driving, or the sidewalls may not be built for any hard cornering.

Steve Hudspeth is a product manager for the Drag Radial at Hoosier and has helped me with tire selection/availability/air pressure questions. Maybe he could clear it up if you asked him. His e-mail is shudspeth@hoosiertire.com

was this tire sent back to hossier to see why it did that? was hoosier called to let them know about a faulty product? if so what was thier reply?i had this happen to me with a regular regualer street tire, it was low on air and the rim cut through the tire and it looked liked the pictures above.

dont think the tire that busted was the drag radial. i talked to the kid and he said he got them from tirerack.com. i called tirerack and they dont sell the drag radial, just the hoosiers road racing tire. they look the same but the construction and compound is different. either way... that should never have happened.
me and my buddy tested the prototype hoosiers last season and they worked great. i just ran the 225/50R16's with my new turbo setup this past saturday at Streetwars. First time on the tires and turbo... need to work on my launches more but they stuck good. the tires are awesome. ran a best of 13.1 @ 109 with a 2.05 60ft. we ran a 205/45R16 last season and bested a 1.92 60ft.
if you have any questions about them and where to get them email me.

I ordered them from Discount Tires, $115/ea for the wheels, $176/ea for the tires.

seriously, if you can't drive them on the street then whats the point of calling them drag radials, i wouldnt pay that much for this tire, might as well get slicks or buy a true drag radial like the 555r or bfg
