Default Newbie in need of help

Ok, first off I want to introduce myself. My name is Coffee and I don't know jack about cars. I want to learn much about cars (CRX's in general) and I do have access to a shop down the street. My question to all the experts here is, Where should I start?
I plan on getting a CRX by this august if not sooner but for now I'm stuck driving a little 1993 toyota pick up. Its fast but I'm a car guy.
Help me out guys/girls if you have time and THANKS A TON!

two years ago i didn't know what a spark plug was and never could do even a simple oil change. a year later i did an engine swap (b16) and have done almost everything to my car.

start by going to http://www.howstuffworks.com and read EVERYTHING in the automotive part, esp the engine stuff. that should give you a general understanding of how cars work.

from there the best thing is to get a car and start doing all of the work yourself on it. small things from oil changes, spark plugs and wires, distributer cap/rotor. basically do a complete tune-up. just get a book (haynes or chilton @ you local autozone or whatever) for your car and do things one by one.

then save up some money and do an engine swap. research everything you can and learn as much about the swap as possible. after the swap you might have a few problems here and there but i see them as continuing education

Get a si or hf since they already have mpfi..(90-91 si would be best if you can find one since it has 4wheel disc brake)..Watch out for rust..

Read car mags. ANd not just the import ones. Reading about difference types of cars help you understand the differences in makes and models.

Actually that is wrong. If they were solely cosmetic they wouldn't do anything but in fact the rear discs do approx. 30-40% of the braking depending on the proportioning valve.

on the topic at hand....

About 2 years ago i bought a 91 CRXsi and decided i was gonna "build it up " with a body kit, neons, 18" rims blue tint...the works. Then i got kinda sick of seeing alot of my friends doing all that and seeing unpainted body kit with huge cracks in them, bright *** neons that impair your vision at night. And my 17" rims that were rough as hell on my daily driver.

I then came across honda-tech. I started reading EVERYTHING in the EF/CRX forum, and i can safely say that now i can fix almost anything on my CRX. I know what to look for if it won't start, i know how to replace things, and i know how to search on here and find many people with the same problem.

and for the second item at hand....

I have driven a 89 CRX with front disk brakes, as a test drive for my girl friend. And i can say without a doubt that going from a Stock 91Si to a 89 standard was a huge diffrence in braking. I tryed to stop like i would in my CRX, and it wouldn't work as fast.

Either way, if you ever run into any problems with your CRX, ask on here...sift through the sarcasim, and find the answer

Wow, I didn't expect such a bunch of cool people on a forum, I'm not use to that hehe.
Well, I plan on learning mechanics, be it the little stuff and the hard stuff. I'm 30 now and I think its about time to learn.
I'm a Computer tech and own a small biz called caffeinated Computers. The biz is new and its just starting to take off so I figured I would start a side hobby/lifestyle as not to get burned out. I also want to put a full computer in my car...cause I'm nerdy like that and I think it would serve a better purpose then a play station heh.
The first thing I want to do is when I find me a car is go threw it and fix any machanics that hender its performance. I then want to paint it and put some normal rims on it cause stock CRX ones are the ugley.
When I feel like I know enough I will dive into slapping a new engine in it and turbo it. I have a friend that owns a tuner shop so mI might be able to get some help from time to time. I also have a friend that does paint.
I just want to thank all of you for taking the time to welcome a newbie and if I ever see someone in need of help and I know what the heck im talking about I will help them the way you all have helped/welcomed me.
Take care all and ty again!
