Default what wire to tap into for constant power? (for digital tach w/shift light)

i just bought a pivot digital tach with a shiftlight. i hooked up all the wires, except one. it is the YELLOW wire. it's like a memory wire, so lets say you set you shift light to go off at 8000, and you turn off your car. once you turn on your car again, the shift point will still be at 8000. but i can't seem to find out what wire to tap into?? i tapped into the wire used for the cd player, when i do that, and turn off the car, the lights on the digital tach stays on....does anybody know what wire i can tap into without the digital tach lights being on once i turn off the car? but still keep it's memory of that shiftpoint, instead of reseting everytime i turn off my car...

if you only connect the yellow wire to constant power your tach lights shouldn't stay on after you turn the car off. the yellow wire shouldnt have anything to do with the lights on the tach.

edit : typo

Try connecting the wire to an ignition hot (positive only when the car ignition is turned on) wire. Maybe you're just confused or maybe the tach is broken...? I dunno!

what i'm trying to do is find a wire that i can tap the YELLOW wire into. so when i set my shiftpoint, it won't reset when i turn off my car. just like a radio.

First of all, what car you r u hooking up? how many wires on the tach? try the memory wire in the fuse box under driver side dash. Check for a fuse with a "check light tool" and u can connect the yellow wire to this fuse, or you can connect to a wire plug under the hood (right next to the power steering fluid holder).

you can use the "memory" wire behind the clock or headunit. it's fused off the 7.5A fuse in the underhood fuse box.
