Default do i have a freak motor? B16a...

well i bought a crx off my buddy and he just swapped a B16a from an sir into it. the motor is a 1990. Well for some reason the vtec comes in at 4900 rpms. its suppose to be closer to 6k. Not to mention, on stock P185, muffler and intake(stock headers) the car pulled a 13.9 with an almost full tank and 150lb driver WITH full interior.

ok now ur thinking CHIP! and umm no. pulled the ecu apart and sure enough alll oem. Was thinking well doesnt have to be the ecu cams could be working the vtec differently sow hat if i have ctr cams? come in around 5k. and nope, stock b16 cams. looked down the plug holes and dont have ctr pistons. SOMETHING has to be causeing vtec to kick in early maybe the sylinoid is from another car? hell i dont know but something is freaky about this thing...anyone have ANY ideas cause im selling the B16 swap complete and if i can come up with stuff to help me out on price, itd be even better...

you can tell what cams and pistons you have by looking though the plug holes? well i would be stoked to pull a 13.9 with a seamingly stock b16. the 13.9 is your selling point! let who ever wants to buy your motor drive your car and see for themselves how it pulls. nice time by the way

I have a first gen b16 and vtec kicks in at 4900-5000rpm on my stock tach. So their is nothing wrong with your motor in that department. Are tachs are off in our cars so their is nothing wrong. And yes something is up with your motor in a good way. What was your trap speed?

So it pulled a 13.9.. Whats the trap speed and 60' for that time? THAT will tell more then just the time itself.

it was like 101mph with a 2.300 60 foot and a .07 reaction time..so i mean good reaction and 60 which could help the time alot but i didnt expect that. so im stuck but the thing to me is im not sure if the ecu is suppose to come in at 4800...

101mph is a strong trap. I have a somewhat built b18C1 that traps at 102.5mph. I would say something for SURE isn't stock on that B16a. No doubt in my mind unless your car is seriously gutted.

Also, reaction has nothing to do with your 1/4 mile time.

A guy around here used to run 14 flat almost every time in a gutted hatch with a rock stock b16 swap. 13.9 in a rex sounds about right.

no its full interior and thats with a sub! i mean an 8inch box so nothin crazy i guess that wouldnt really matter. yea i didnt get the 101mph. Its just weird cause u can see people run the same 60 and run a 13.9 but have 97mph. i dont know. my gsr will be faster well thanks for the input even tho i still cant find out whats up.

Yeah, but I bet its not stock. It just doesn't add up. hp/weight ratio is certainly not in favor of those times with a "stock" B16. My only point is that somewhere along the lines, something was done to that guys engine. It could NOT have been stock. 101mph is like 170-180whp depending on how light his "full interior" car is. Trust me, there is NO WAY that swap was 100% stock. Something was changed somewhere along the way.

yea 2.3 is just average. 2.1 is getting up there an 2.0 is excellent for a front wheel drive. Yea there has to be something done lol but seriously doubt the 180whp. lol my gsr crx will be around 170 and we're guessing 13.2...a 180whp crx is 12's...well the b16 stock pushes 129 whp im guessing something is done. OR i looked at the pistons and no carbon build up but the head and valves might have some making it higher compression.. but still it has to be around 145-150 whp. plus only one person said the PWO kicks in at 4800...like i said can anyone confirm this??

thats what i mean. with dr's or slicks he could easily bring it down to 1.8-2.0 and get a mid 13 sec pass

Hmm... well the 91 crx si is the heavy one.. I igured close to my hatch, thats why I estimated 170-180whp. Anyways. I am pretty sure 4,800 is the stock point for the early gen b16's.

If you do a search you find that is the stock activation point for a pwo. And a 101 mph trap isn't stock for a b16 but you already know that. Something is definitely going on with that motor. You don't even have a header or exhaust for that matter so that should tell you right their that something is up.

Your vtec in that engine and ECU should be kicking in where it is. It is fine. As for your motor, i dunno sounds sick though.

chances are whoever owned that motor before back in Japan had some work done to the internals. Not sure why it would have stocks cams though then? Unless they pulled the other cams they had in it before dumping the car & just put the stock ones back in.
If I'd have to guess I'd say either a port & polish, pistons, milled the head, thin head gasket or some combo of those. Does it have an aftermarket valvetrain?

not from what i can see. it could be gsr cams helping out some because u cant tell the difference between b16 and gsr. and actually it could have a thinner head gasket cause my buddy owned it and shanged all that before. see the reason i thought there was cams or something because on the cam oil feeds there is a left and a right mark in permanent marker and what direction they go. so i think it was pulled apart before. possibly even just newer B16 cams cause they have a better profile too..other then that, i have no idea.
