How do you get the speedomter Gear out?
Hey, I have a 1989 CRX SI (D16A6) Manual Transmission. I found out my speedometer cable won't go in due to something being broken within the shaft itself.

The blue is where the speedometer cable goes in. The pink is the assembly of it.
Is there an easy way to remove the speedometer gear

I couldnt get it either man, I played with it for an hour
All I was doing was swapping throwout bearings so I kind of just tried to pry the tranny away at the bottom and swap it, yeah well that didnt work, top of the tranny fell and the ******* cable broke, I now have no speedo
Im swapping another build D in shortly, Ill see if I can get it then

What I did:
1.Take compressed air and blow/clean out the dirt and debris
where the sensor is inserted..
2.Soak it liberally around the outside with PB Blaster

3.Grab the larger part of the sending unit where it meets the transmission
with some round jawed channel-locks or vise-grips.
4.Move the sending unit side to side to break the seal, reapply lube if necessary.
5.As the side to side movement becomes easier with the lube, start pulling
upward while still moving it back and forth..
6.Heat from a small propane torch might also help..
[lack of space is going to make all this very difficult]
I had never removed one until just now but the trans is not in a car
so it was not as hard I'm sure..

You might also be able to move it up slightly using the little slot
in the sending unit that is designed to hold it in using a
flatblade screwdriver or a brake adjustment tool...

Man i pulled it out, seems like it was dented. I had to drill tap it and put a screw in it and use a puller on it. Came out like a charm
Seems the person who tried to take the cable out broke the female end of the gear, now I have to buy a new one.
Thanks for the help guys

(*Btw you can fill the transmission fluid from here as well*)
