Default Valve Adjustment Question (Already checked the search)

I'm really new at this stuff. My question is where do you place the feeler gauge? Do you check the clearance under the lob of the camshaft? I have only had the valve cover off one time and just looked around under there. I checked my helms manual and the picture really doesn't give me a good idea on where to place the feeler gauges? Any help or pictures would be great. Thanks

stick it between the rocker arm and the cam lobe.

thanks for the website and the pic. How do you know how much drag is enough? Just wondering. Thanks again

If you can't get the feeler in, then you have too much drag. Adjust the valve until you can *just* get the feeler between the cam lobe and rocker arm contact point and slide it back and forth freely. Getting used to the feeler gauges is key. Once you are used to using the guages you will be able from experience to tell when it is tight.
When I first started I was always inserting them at the wrong angle and would get them stuck, but after about 20 minutes I learned how to do it. By then I could tell between whether I inserted the guage at a wrong angle or whether the valve really was too tight or too loose.

It will be pretty obvious between too tight (won't fit in) and too loose (zero friction). Just get in there and do it, you'll laugh at how easy it is when you're done.

I forget what the specs are for the required feeler guage size, but adjust the valves so that the right size fits, but the next step in size does not.

Screw that "moves freely" crap...thats what I did the first time and they were loose as hell. Do it to where it bearly fits..but still fits. If you want to double check yourselg, after you adjust it to where you want, try and get the next bigger size feller in..if its doesnt fit at all..then youre good.
