b16a SiR in 89 CRX DX wont start...plx help
I just finished my swap and the motor won't start. It cranks and we are getting spark, and fuel pressure is good at the filter. We haven't checked the injectors yet, but we have fiddled with the crank angle wires, the 2 white wires on the distributor, the throttle angle sensors, and timing. Nothing seems to work. If we spray starter fluid in the intake and blip the throttle a lot it will start but you have to keep it in high revs and we have only been able to keep it going for like 15-25 seconds at a time. It cranks and fires like it wants to start but it will never take off and run by itself. We have checked wiring like 12 times now so we know it isn't that. We are getting a code 4, crank angle. We have tried switching the 2 wires and resetting the ecu but both ways we still get the code. Motor only has 40,000 miles on it so i don't see why the distributor would already be bad. please help with any ideas.
A distributor can go bad whenever it wants, OEM or not. Every now and then there is an error in manufacturing, and walla, POS part
Are you 139% sure timing is corrrect, cam-crank and ignition?

measure resistance between orange and white wire in the distributor by unplugging the 6P connector. there should be between 350-550 ohms. If not then dizzy is toast.
Would crank angle cause it not to start though? We can get it to start but only if we keep the revs really high and spray a shitload of ether in there. Longest we ahve had it started was like 25-30 seconds. We can't adjust the timing cause we can't even get the car to start. The only way i know of to get it in time is with a light and that is while the car is running... is there another way? The car fires like it wants to start but will never quite start and idle by itself. Last we checked we are getting spark in all 4 cylinders and good fuel pressure.
seriously try a known good distributor. Those obd0 ones go at random, and often. Also did you replace the plug wires? Or are you using the ones that came with the motor? I've had problems with that as well. Even though you are getting spark it may not be a stong enough spark, which would explain why you can run it at high rpm, because the signal gets stonger.
Check you crank angle wires at the ecu also, make sure they are right. Similar thing happened when I did my mpfi conversion. Go get a haynes manual for a 94 del sol, or the 94-200 integra, and follow the timing belt installation in there exactly. Took my over a week to get my timing right, because I wouldn't check the book.

u may want to check ur wiring again ijust finished my b16b type r motor aswap and it did the same thing it turned out to be i by passed the main relay so if i were u i would check the main relay make sure u took the 2 yel/blk wires from the dx injector's and and put them togeth and ran them to the resistor box if so i would check the main relay. make sure that u are getting fuel into the injectors i ahd that problem i had great fuel pressure through the fuel rail but the injectors weren't taking.....
