Help:Noise at 3500 in every gear
First I should say hi, because as you can see this is my very first day as a member of Honda-Tech. I've read the boards for awhile but finally had a question I thought was worth registering for.
Oh yes, and I did search before posting, so I dont begin by pissing off half of you all.
Anyway, as I'm driving home today i notice a slight grinding sound as i accelerate through 3500 rpms. It begins as the tach needle starts to go over the white 3500 line, and ends just as it passes. This happens in ALL gears, and even in neutral. The noise is also present when i decelerate past the 3500 mark.
I have a GSR, which is probably important as I think i remember that particular RPM having something to do with VTEC (I could be wrong).
Also there is some oil on the passenger side of the block (which i thought was just seeping, seeing as the car has a buttload of miles) and its nearing its second scheduled belt replacement.
I just mention those things in case they have anything to do with the problem. Thanks in advance for your help!

the noise you are hearing is a common problem (so it seems) on our tegs, mine included. not a big deal. i know it is this because it ALWAYS happens right around 3500 rpm, not matter what gear, etc. like you said.
it's just a heat shield that's under your car, the lower part of the header or over the cat (usually the case). if you can bend it back from whatever its vibrating on, should be able to fix it. or take it to a muffler shop and they can fix it for like 10-20 bucks.
search for heat shield related issues to find more info.
btw, belts have nothing to do with oil seeping out of your engine. might wanna get someone to check the valve cover gasket and cam seals.
welcome to H-T
EDIT: also, describe "buttload of miles" in a numeric format please.

either what he said or a crack in the weld of the B pipe. both are common.
