timing question
ok this may be stupid......I am getting ready to do my mini-me swap and when I set the crank and cam at TDC where to I position the rotor on the dizzy? I did a search and all I could find was "put the rotor for the dizzy in the correct location" also I know you need to do something to the ecu to get it to not correct the timing. Everyone says to jump the maintance connector or something like that and I don't really understand what they mean can someone explain this to me please....sorry this is probably a pretty noob question I just want to make sure I get everything right when I do my swap. Thanx
You'll want to set the mechanical timing of the engine (block and head) at TDC, make sure the rotor is facing cyl 1 and not the opposing tower on the distributor. The service connector is in the engine bay, by the driverside fender. Usually has a yellow cap over it, that you pull off, and short the two connectors.
I looked around for that service connector but couldn't find it....can anyone help me out jsut a little...sorry I am a noob.....thanx
its a 91 and if it is that little blue clip I found it....so I just jump those two little parts of that clip together and then I am good to go right

Yup jump the connector with a paperclip and time away.

Jumping the service connector is for setting the ignition timing..
The cam timing/crank timing is something entirely different..
Before disassembling the engine,You want to set the crank
at "top dead center" with the #1 piston at the end of its compression stroke..
To Do This:
With the valve cover and spark plugs removed, rotate the crankshaft
counter-clockwise until you see the #1 cylinders intake valves open
and close..From there rotate the crank until the piston comes to the top..
That will be "#1 TDC" and the distributor rotor should point toward the #1 station in the distributor cap..
