Default DOHC VTEC - Oil Control Orifice - wtf does it do?

Number 9.

My block is missing it and I am going to Honda today to order one but I was just wondering what exactly it is there for? I am glad that I noticed I didn't have it because it looks like something anyone could easily oversee.

Also how does it go in? Just slips in there and then it is held in by the head?

that controlls your oil pressure, i dont think you can get an aftermarket one, you have to get a stock one from dealer, or doner, but yes you have to have it, and i hope that line isnt for lsvtec, cause its too skinny : P looks like a -4

The oil control orifice controls the amount of oil reaching the head. Pretty straight forward.

If that is your block...
<rant>GET THAT BRASS TEE FITTING OUT OF YOUR BLOCK. IT _WILL_ BREAK OFF AND SPRAY OIL EVERYWHERE. You can ask anyone who has tried that, the weight of the oil pressure sensor and the vibration of the engine will cause the fitting to break off at the threads, leaving some in the block. The proper way to run the line is either directly out of the back of the block, or running a line from the block to a tee fitting that is secured somewhere else, and then attach the oil pressure sensor and the line to the head to that tee. Just making sure nothing happens to you </rant>

If that's not your block, forgive me for flipping out, I just see that stuff way too much.

picture is not from my block... it is from the Endyn website.

however, my setup looks the same. The OEM sensor weighs close to nothing. The only times I have heard of people having problems is when they try to hang the Autometer Oil Pressure Sender off of a tee fitting, which is MUCH heavier.

But I am changing my setup to run to the firewall because I am going to be running the Oil Pressure Gauge.

I ordered the orifice and oring from Honda today for like $5.

Anyone have some info on installing it?

Well in that case, I hope they leave it there...

Well let me tell you about mine breaking off with the stock sensor. Just because it weighs very little doesn't mean it can't have enough force through the vibrations of the block to break the brittle threads cut into the grain of the brass. If you want, try it and see.

Slip the o-ring on and just pop it in to the block. May want to use a dab of oil to help it in.

so yours broke off? what did u do to fix it?

A shop around me did this on a kids car (hung the big Autometer Sender Unit) off of a tee. It broke after about 100 miles I think. Then the shop JB welded it back together and put the same thing back in!! and ofcourse it broke again... not sure how the motor sits now.
