Default ls/vtec rev limiter

Am I risking the chance of the life of my ls/vtec with just shot peened rods (no arp rod bolts), when I take it all the way to 8600rpm? I stop making power at 8200 but when I shift I want to stay in vtec. give me a for alright and for me being stupid.

thats a big blow up waiting to happen falling out of vtec is better than blowing the motor

I would never take any stock bottom end that high. it might hang for a fews pass but not for long! Any b16,gsr,R Tranny should not full out of vtec when shifting@
8200.What camshafts are you running?8600+run a high risk of flot a valve! on stock cams!

if your valvetrain is up to the task of high revving, the stock ls/block would be fine ... here are the factors that hurt the stock ls/vtec

- people liking to bump the rev limiters
- the oil used in the motor
- getting off full throttle run while in gear

I've seen LS/vtec setups hit over 9krpms all the time but not blow up ... the stock Ls's are balanced very well from the factory.

I don't have stock cams, and yes my valvetrain is upgraded. What do you mean by - getting off full throttle run while in gear? Also it's not like i plan to rev that high everyday

get a b16 tranny. I shift at about 8300rpm and it drops back down to about 58-6000rpm

Valvetrain is crower. Not really worried about the top end, it's the bottom end i'm worried about. Can it take 8600?

8600 is too much.

go to a dyno and check to see if you're even making power there.

Peaks out at 8200 but I wanna stay in the powerband. My real power shines at 5800-8200

here's a vid of my lsvtec with ls tranny. 2nd-third gear lands around 6000 + rpms and 3rd to 4th lands at 6600 rpms. Shifting is done at 8300 rpms.

From second to third on mine shifting at 8200 to third i land around 8500. That's shifting fast. But lets not get off subject, the ls bottom end should hold right? If so how come theres all these ls/vtec motor messing up because not using arp rod bolts?

they screw up from poor building, and having the pathetic stock ls rods. your motor will probably not last long hitting 8600 rpms . Even with the arp bolts i wouldnt take it that high consistently. Learn how to shift faster at 8200 with some arp rod and head bolts and hopefully you'll get a long life out of your motor.

Backdraft here used stocked ls rods with arp rod bolts and took it past 9k and never had any problems. He also had many passes with them, couple of dyno sessions and his car was daily driven.

im sorry to be a dick but you dont really know what your talking about, at least based on this statement.

you have been given a few good answers and you dont want to hear them. it sounds like you just want someone to say "you will be fine", when infact someone did! CHEETAH knows what he is talking about, take his advise and put it to good use.

if you want to run your motor that high every so often then that is your choice. you *should* be fine as long as you do make a mechanical mistake i.e. miss shift.
