Tipping Painter
What's the word on tipping a painter? I am gonna get my car painted by Maaco ($399 job) and wanted to see what I should do. Tip before and hope he does a good job and maybe will do some extra? Or after? Both? What is an appropriete amount?
well 15% of 399 is 59.85. id just talk to him before and be like. hey how much do YOU want to give me a good paint job. but bump anyways for more info for the cause.
People tip their painter now? Jeez I must be out of the loop. I personally wouldn't tip anything. They are not a waitress, they don't get paid a ridiculously low wage and count on the tips to subsidize their income. Anyway, you are going to Maaco, if you were that worried about getting a "good" job then you wouldn't bother w/ them in the first place.

I appreciate your response. If an extra couple bucks can dramatically change how he preps it... it seems like it'd be worth it.

well generally it's not the same guy that follows the car through.... so basically you can tip the painter, but for example the prep or masking might be crappy
So I say, whatever tip you give, do it at the beginning. maybe slip the guy a $100 and ask him to PLEASE make sure they take good care of the prep and paint. Tell him you *heart* your car and would like to get it back in good shape. Sometimes ppl can identify with you and might take better care of you... and the $100 helps them do it.
