Ok, ill give you guys a little info into why i am asking this question. Theres this local guy out here in oklahoma, and hes a 53 year old rice hater, he thinks that ALL hondas are slow pieces of crap, so he told me that he's building a old "Luv" truck with a 3.8 liter v6 to come out one night and smoke me
, well, the 3.8 isn't going to be built, but he is going to spray, now i know i will get beat by him on bottle, but he has agreed to race me off of it too.
Now he will only go from a stop, thus i need to figure out what i want to run tires wise to get off the line. For this race i will have a Ls/vtec with wiseco/eagles, 11.5:1 compression, rlz P&P stage 2 head with bc4's and other minor bolt-on's. i am thinking somewhere in the 190-200 range tuned. So i already heav a set of 14x6" miata wheels to put some sticky tires on. So my options look like BFG DR's or the nitto 555-r's. What would you guys choose? Help me out to win one for the imports!
TIA....chris
P.s., if this thread dosent fit here fell free to move. Thx.

Too bad you weren't FI so you could actually teach him a lesson. What kind of strip are you talking about, drag strip or on the street. What kind of power are you currently making.
my advice, don't race him.
The guy is 53, are you just racing him to prove a point. don't entertain him.
also, you have a b16, torqueless motor. even with your mild compression and headwork, the v6 will take you.

I am not condoning street racing but, Get some of the M/T 20x8 slicks. Launch high and get the jump on him. He will have traction issues in the LUV so, take advantage of that. I think on slicks you have chance of beating him even if he is on the bottle.

wow i know everyone said don't run him, but if you have too i would def go with the slicks. you ll def gain an advantage over the drag radials out the hole.
You never specified if the race was gonna be on the street or track. if its on a track you'll def take at least 2-3 tenths off your times compared to the drag radial. with a street tire you ll most likely pull a 2.0-2-2 sixty foot time compared to a 1.7-1.8 on drags. rev her out to 8 grand with the slicks and she ll hook. just hang on for torque steer though.

Its a 3.8 liter, and its not a gn motor, its gonna be n/a. I don't know if he was trying to BS me, but he said it should put down 200whp. If it does what do you think it will run? I really don't know what the hell a luv truck is, aren't they made using some japanese parts? Oh and the race will be on the street, on a closed course!

even smaller than an old s10 these trucks ran a isuzu 4 or something and are crap. but a simple swap to even a small six and you can get be in trouble. My dad had one a while ago and we did the swap to a s10 v6 that made a beast out of it. sounds like the old guy is looking to make a fool out of you. I wouldn't race him unless I had something up my sleeve and It sounds like you aren't ready. do the swap done slicks get a few passes in at the track dial it in to where you can get the launch down. it's hard to run a new motor.

I don't know about 12's but that would be a nice surprise! Im guessing with 200whp it should run pretty good.

Haha, I got barely 4k outa mine.

I would race him in a heart beat, but i have a bad case of "cut of your nose to spite your face" In all seriousness i would at least show up on BFGs if not slicks. And I defenatly would show up with a bottle hidden in the car. Shut the ****** up. Spray him like theres no tomarrow. If he says anything tell him "I tuned my Vtec, it hits like a bitch now". Ive used that line countless times and it always works.

My Ntto 555r drag radials work great. No wheel hop here and I'm not even using tracion bars, I just have jimfab motor mounts.
